I'm looking for albums to take advantage of soundstage and airiness in my headphones, albums recorded in interesting places, cathedrals, catacombs, canyons, etc. ( No need for it to start with the letter "c", just the examples I thought of.)

I don't know of many, but I'll give the two I can think of,

    Magnificat by TrondheimSolistene (Cathedral),

and Tusk by Fleetwood (reproduction bathroom)

The Triffids, In the Pines - recorded on 8 track in an Australian woolshed:

Edit: The link is to the remastered reissue. Hard for me to compare how that changed things vs the original, because Youtube on my bad desktop system vs vinyl on the main one.

This track and the next 3 in this wonderful album where recorded at night on the roof of Ballaké Sissoko's home in Bamako, Mali. You can hear the surrounding night noises, including sheep.

I dunno about airy, but this track has always struck me as sounding just like being in a club. The guitar is definitely coming from an amp(s) behind the band, the vocal, organ and bass'n'drum are forward, and there is a pretty good sense of the size of the club (relatively small) from the echo. Kinda spooky to me, as a young guy I heard plenty of cover bands in small venues and this song always knocks me back to those evenings. Note that this is much more apparent on speakers (duh), but I get some sense of it on headphones.

Uri Caine Ensemble - Wagner E Venezia

Recorded live at St Mark's Square in Venice (Italy) in front of Gran Caffè Quadri. Lots of ambient sounds, at some point you can even hear the bells of campanile tower in the background.

View from the cafe, shot on my last year's visit to Venice:

Music for the King of Scots - Inside the Pleasure Palace of James IV

This is a fascinating project, in which the music was recorded in an anechoic chamber and then placed into an "acoustically reconstructed" medieval chapel.
