Hey guys, I'm dealing with a brand new Bifrost 4490 and can't make it work.
Modi 2 Uber works perfectly fine on my Lenovo G50.

It seems like the Lenovo (win 8.1) doesn't recognize the Bifrost at all (I'm using PYST USB cable: the one that works great with Modi2U)
Tried installing 1.16 and 1.03 drivers but "Please connect CMEDIA USB 2.0 Audio Device" keeps showing up so drivers won't install.
Bifrost ON/OFF is the same. USB 2.0/USB 3.0 ports is the same as well. Selective suspend is disabled.

Plugged the Bifrost into a DELL laptop (win 10), and it recognizes the Bifrost as 'Schiit USB 2.0 Device' under Control Panel/Device Manager
It should work, I thought! But no...
Same "Please connect CMEDIA USB 2.0 Audio Device" when trying to install Schiit's W10 drivers on that Laptop as well.

Not sure what to do at this point.
I've sent an email to Schiit, but no answer yet.

    Any ideas? (Thanks)

First of all, do you have a usb hub? That will get you up and running.

Edit: I see you tried all the driver versions.

    No powered HUB
Are you suggesting USB ports on both Lenovo and DELL laptops are not powerful enough for the Bifrost?

Well, I had a similar experience with Bifrost Multibit - it did not like my Lenovo Thinkpad (I think under powered), and it did not like my Surface Pro 3 (these are USB 3.0, and I know it's fussy about that), but it did like my 5 year old Hp with the monster keyboard and the pre-power starved USB.

Now, funny thing was even an _unpowered_ hub would make it happy - real vanilla USB 2.0.

FWIW, I always use a Wyrd, and that does the job too.

One more thing - I would get the same error msgs as you when trying to install the schiit drivers. but be aware that windows will download a workable/correct cMedia driver if it detects the device, and you won't need the schiit driver. I suspect the device will work in your DELL laptop, as it probably has the windows update driver running.

I was super duper stumped getting my Bifrost Multibit to work one time, and I read in the manual to use a standard usb cable, nothing fancy or audiophiley. I didnt have anything special but swapped out for an old belkin printer cable and it worked like a charm.

If I can't solve this today, I'll buy a powered HUB tomorrow (It's 23.30hs here)

Even when the DELL recognize a 'Schiit USB Audio gen 2' (under other devices), the Bifrost doesn't show up among Sound devices, and Foobar2000 doesn't include it as a possible output.

I had this problem with a Dell laptop and W7.

I was able to eventually get it to work through some combo of removing the device in device manager and reinstalling the 1.03 driver. Try using a few different USB ports and make sure things like "power saving mode" are disabled for your USB ports. Might be in power settings.

I don't have an extra USB AB cable around. I think the cable should work just fine because:
    1) It works for the Modi 2 Uber
    2) It's a Schiit PYST Cable

I'll try to find a different cable anyway.

    Hello,
The only USB related thing I've found on Windows 8.1 is USB Selective Suspend, and it's disabled.

Do you have the right chipset and USB drivers for your laptop?

    Chipset yes, sure.
    USB Drivers, I think so...
There's no specific USB Drivers for this laptop according to Lenovo, but Modi 2 Uber, FiiO and everything I've ever connected, worked fine.

And you're sure the input is set to USB on the Bifrost? I believe it's the leftmost light indicator on the front. If that doesn't work, I'd try it with another computer and see if that works. If it does, something is awry with the laptop.

Yes, the light work just fine and it's in the right place.

It seems kind of less than optimal to me to have to do this (like I say, I have to use the Wyrd to mitigate the issue), but it will be a simple path through it if that is an acceptable solution. Get the cheapest hub you can for now, and use it as an excuse to get the Wyrd later.

Well I hope you figure it out, it was a pain for me to get it working, As best you can, try to isolate one potential problem at a time and narrow it down. I ended up using a SPDIF port my laptop happened to have, I've read the powered USB 2.0 hub worked for some people.

Did you make sure to remove all other device drivers? Particularly audio usb ones.

Yeah, the sad part would be paying more than 6000 miles international shipping + customs taxes for a single Wyrd

    Yes.

Nah, no need for the Wyrd. I am confident that the crappiest usb hub will set you up nicely, in the well appointed life style to which you have become accustomed.

Not a single powered USB HUB in the whole city (half a millon people here)
News is I've tried the Bifrost with my brother's Asus N-Series Laptop (win 8.1) and it worked just fine (with older 1.03 drivers)

I'll bought a powered USB HUB on the net, so I'll get it in a few days.
If the Lenovo still refuses to recognize the Bifrost, I guess I'll have to buy my brother's Asus.
    I'll report back.

    Thanks everyone!
