Wow, interesting & "ambitious" project, continued success with this ! I would like to back up for a second though as I not exactly sure what parts we are calling the "back mesh" of the HD800 driver.

If we're talking about the protective screens that pass thru the HD800 baskets sitting behind drivers that are held in place by the4 screws that go thru the rings sitting on the driver edges & holding them to the earcups, I'm seriously confused for 2 reasons.
    1) I wouldn't call "these" screens part of the drivers &
    2) having removed the protective screens from my HD800 didn't appear to negatively affect the bass response of my HD800 it just got rid of the "Reverb" like effect that these screens (in conjunction with the rings) were causing.

Now if the mesh we're talking about is inserts that were removed from the baskets . I can understand that!, but once again I don't think I could call that part of the driver! Is there another mesh sitting on the back of the drivers that I'm just not recognizing ?

That would explain the bass loss, otherwise all I can say is .... ???

... looks like something happened, as I went to check on the order status today and it wasn't in my order history. ordered another today.

starting work on the cable connection slot. will keep this updated.

and yes, w4m, we're talking about the mesh on the ear side of the HD800.

Sorry, but just for clariffcation, the mesh that is part of the earcups (grey) & not the protective screen (black) ,which is
sits behind the driver (& you don't see on my HD800 in my user picture) ?

I think what is throwing me off is that , I wouldn't think that either of these parts would be included if it was just the "HD800 Drivers" that were ordered. (sorry to be a PITA); I'm curious to hear how this project works out due to the fact that the HD800
Drivers appear to be significantly better than how Senn decided to implement them.

The mesh that's part of the "cups", which are more of a baffle plate since the driver is mounted on the rear of them. The HD800 technically has no cups.

And no, neither of those parts will be included.

On a side note, if anyone can get me exact dimensions (in mm) of the HD800 driver, I could probably start some preliminary work on the spider model without having one in my hands. I would need:
    • Total height
    • Total diameter
    • Diameter of the diaphragm shield/mounting area (the side that couples with the HD800 cupbaffle)
    • Diameter of the magnet shield (the basket that holds the magnet)
    • Height of the magnet shield
    • Width of the driver terminal connector
    • Length of the driver terminal connector (how far it juts out from the driver frame)
That would be enough to make a dummy model of the driver.

    Anyone? :headbang:

Only Marv @purrin has access to a disassembled HD800 for that, mate.

Using the HD800 Driver in this headphone ,which appears to be about as much of a to totally open design as you can find, are you considering making the spider a bit less open ?

(Your explanation of how the HD800 principle of operation (thanks for that by the way) inspired this train of thought;) Or am I getting ahead of what your planning at this point ?
