Looking for a recommendation for a good aftermarket cable for HD800's. Just a regular cable with a 1/4" plug, not balanced. I don't have a lot of money, so I can't afford a $200 - $300 cable but something good for a decent price-to- performance ratio.

    Thanks!

dang, can't say this will fit your under $200 budget (depending on cable length and emailing Kevin who is on SBAF)
but a YFS constructed Super30 Litz cable for HD800 will likely not be surpassed in terms of sonic quality.
it's my end game cable with (stock) HD800 and Black Widow and the 30 strand copper does deliver more "body" in the sound without bloating bass or shrinking the soundstage.

@MisterRogers has a YFS HD800 cable now as well and can confirm, deny or abstain as he chooses. ha!

Yea, great cable! Sonically, I think it's a very good match for the HD800. Re: price, I'd suggest reaching out to Kevin at YFS; his prices are VERY reasonable. Re: DIY, I've built just about everything BUT cables. I've changed connectors on a cable (converting from mini-XLR to 2.5 for HE1K) and found it very frustrating. Kinda funny - I can solder 0603 SMD all day and find it very relaxing, enjoyable.

@MisterRogers - can you tell me how I can contact Kevin at YFS?

Don't know if it'll matter, but you can use us as referrers.
One final comment on his cable; it's built like a tank, but just a tad on the stiff side. Given how well it's constructed, I'm good with that. Wanted to call it out though.

BestInTheVerse makes very nice looking cables at a fair sounding price.

Thank you @keanex ! I appreciate the advice - I went to the site but it is currently under construction - they are remodeling/upgrading it.

Kevin charged me $200 for a 6ft cable (I think - it's at work so can't confirm right now). I was reluctant to answer as I really don't know if Kevin gave me a deal or not. So to be clear, that was my price - your actual price may be more or less. I'll say this though - for an HD800 cable built as well as this - I felt I got a good deal before my cable arrived, and even more so after listening to it for awhile.

I bet they are awesome cables -but $200 is well out of my price range - I may have to find a used one somewhere, maybe on here for sale, or someone here who can make me one for a good price. While I would love to have a $200 cable for the HD800 - $200 is way out of my budget right now, especially for a cable. I just need a cable with a 1/4" plug at the end, don't need a balanced cable as my amp is the Valhalla 2 - not a balanced amp as you know.

Thank you though @MisterRogers for the info!

Yea, DIY is your best bet mate; at less than $200, pretty much all your budget will go into decent wire, connectors, etc. Let's hope a cable DIY'er chimes in.

I saw that afterwards. Here is his Instagram where you can see what his cables look like. I think his prices are around the $100 range or so and can be customized with a few options. I imagine that he would gladly take orders via email.

Maybe not a very popular opinion, but from what I've heard, the stock cable is actually not bad at all. I'd use it, but I prefer balanced.

Unless you need balanced, I'd stick with the stock cable. It's quite good. I also own the Norne Draug 2 (balanced, but due to lack of balanced amp, I use it with a 4 pin XLR to 1/4" adapter), but I actually prefer the stock cable.

ok I'll take your advice and stick with the stock cable since I do not need a balanced cable. I did get a response from Kevin - he said he can do $200 for a 5ft cable. I bet his cables are amazing, but $200 is way out of my price range. I think I'll take the advice on using the stock cable - I may find one on here for sale someday on here or eBay that I can afford if I need it.
