That is weird, comforting and disappointing all at the same time. Fortunately, this is not a portable advice...or that rattle would be a little more unsettling.

Yeah, it's a weirdly rattly knob, but it doesn't matter in use.

Is there a program that splits a single flac file into the multiple tracks if I have the .cue or .log file? I am so freaking lazy I don't want to open audacity and play that game.

I just got a pair of HD800S, and I'm looking for some guidance/thoughts on a good amp and/or DAC to pair with them.

I currently have an ALO PanAM (with Gateway) and a Fiio X7. Without much for a frame of reference, I'm not sure if this combo helps the 800S shine (though I do enjoy them on this set-up significantly more than my LCD 2.2f). And, I'm not sure what price-point I would need to target to see a real improvement over my current set-up.

There is actually an extensive thread dedicated to this exact question. Although it may be for the stock hd800, I'm sure a lot of the advice carries over to the hd800S.

I'd bought and returned the Chord Mojo for my Andromedas because they were too bassy (<0.1 ohms), and please excuse my lack of technical understanding but would the iFi IEMatch give the Andros an FR like out of my iphone 6? I don't understand what this input z spec does/mean:
    • Input Impedance: > 16 Ohm
    • Output Impedance: < 2.5 Ohms (High-Sensitivity) < 1 Ohms (Ultra-Sensitivity)
    Thanks!

Just got a Zana Deux Super.
Can anyone recommend at least two types of 6SL7 driver tubes that will go well with Senn HD650, and are readily available from a US online tube stores.
Also need 6D22S rectifier tubes that are available from any US online stores. Most that I have seen are from Eastern European sellers.

    Thanks in advance.

These were recommended by Marv some time ago. I don't know how available they are though.

Once you get your tubes and have some listening under your belt could you please post your impressions over in the HD650 Appreciation thread? I am really excited to hear some good words about the ZDS with the HD650 as I see that as my Summit-Fi amp.

I'm a complete noob at DIY, but am thinking to start out by trying to terminate some cables with balanced connectors, and wonder if anyone has advice on what I need to get started. A soldering iron for sure, but how much power is appropriate for things like headphone cables? And is an adjustable "soldering station" needed? Would the same iron work for through-hole PCB work? What sort of solder should I use for headphone cables? I suppose that I also need wire cutters and a wire stripping tool. What am I overlooking? And does anyone have a pointer to a favorite absolute beginner tutorial or whatever?

I'm new to this hobby. Beside I don't have a golden ear. I'll probably not be able to do a reliable and credible impression.

It's a beautiful pairing. I use my ZDS with SBAF+SD HD800 (plus cork sometimes), Marv mods HD650 and the HD600. All three are pairings I'd gladly use as my only HP/amp combo at home.

Are there any <2k$, stand-mounted speakers that tonally similiar to the HD650s (basically a smooth, musical sound with fatigue-free top end) ? From what I gathered, people seem to favor the Harbeth P3ESR, but since there is no Harbeth dealer locally, I can't audition them directly. Also, there are the KEF LS50, but I fear that they would sound more like HD800 rather than 650.
