iBasso DX80, I got it and in spite of various quirks in the interface I love the SQ.

OK! Here we go... The super magical unboxing.

    This box contains an amp!

    Unboxed. Ohhhhh... so exciting!

OK, so opening this amp up may not be something I do. Those damn tiny torq screws aren't screaming "take me apart" like other kit I've had.

I do see wires. Not a lot, but some. I can see the Khozmo attenuator. That's good.

I guess I'll have to plug the thing in and listen to porn or something... See if female vocals sound better.

    JAZZ! I meant jazz.

I can tell you one thing, it sure is pretty to look at. If nothing else, you have one of the most visually interesting amps around no matter what it sounds like! I mean seriously, that is one cool looking piece of audio gear.

Thanks Matt, I appreciate it. =)

I can tell you now, it sounds quite different than the Jot, that's for sure! Not so much tonally, I think, it sounds a shade crisp like my Jot - but there is a whole different stage and detail going on with the Milo. Stevie Ray Vaughan's version of Tin Pan Alley was excellent. Listened to it 3 times. (I'm only 20 min into this, so I'm sure that impression will change.)

PC > Bifrost -> Saga -> Milo. Saga volume maxed, using tube out, and I'm at the upper end of my "comfortable" listening levels at 11 o'clock on the Milo dial with my ZMF Eikon. Was worried about possible lack of play on the volume dial, but that seems to be a non-issue. 1 o'clock is HOLYFINGHELL loud. I'm going to guess 4 o'clock is driver failure. 6 o'clock = voice coil ejection at high speed? Possibly.

The desk sure is getting crowded! (Needs cleaning and rearranged too.) I just bought a Crack + Speedball. NO earthly idea where the hell I'm going to put it, but for $300 I couldn't pass it up.

Edit: I hate the camera on my phone. Sorry for the potato pics.

$2300 with Khozmo attenuator and shipping, but who's counting.

I know... I know... that's ZDS territory. Maybe for my next amp. =)

So I've been using a Woo WA6 w/ Mullard CV593/GZ72 rectifier and some GE 6FD7 driver tubes for the past 4 years. It's been a solid little amp, but I think it's time for the next step.

I'm really not sure where to go next, something used from EC, Schiit (had a Rag, didn't love it - maybe Mjolnir 2?), or something completely different. My cans are modded HD650, HifiMan HE-560's for the most part. DAC is a Modi Multibit at work.

    Any suggestions?

I'm new here, I often frequent the other big personal audio forum, but I'm looking for some fresh opinions.

I have a ZMF Ori and a Sound Blaster X7 (and I'm upgrading my op-amps to the Burson Supreme Sound V5i).

I listen to a lot of progressive metal, rock, orchestral and sound tracks. I also game when I'm not too busy (hence, the Sound Blaster X7).

I like a detailed sound with slightly elevated sub-bass and a little extra treble sparkle, but without sucked-out mids.

Should I sell my Ori and get a better amp, and stick with the X7 as a DAC?

Also, do a lot of my listening from my Android phone and Windows PC though Tidal.

What's your budget for an upgrade? Do you need isolation?

Since you already have the Ori have you considered upgrading to the Eikon? It has mild sub bass boost and treble elevation without the sucked out mids. Sort of like a super TH-X00 with better balance.

I don't find it very difficult to drive so you should be good with your current setup until you can afford to upgrade.

The Ori really opens up with the right amount of power. I'd suggest keeping it (because they are awesome) and shoot for a Magni or Jotunheim. You can use the X7 output and a 3.5mm to stereo RCA cable to connect it if you can't get a dedicated DAC like the Modi MB. I'd suggest that over messing with the Burson op amp upgrade.

Edit - k4rstar makes excellent points too. Love my Eikon!

    Thanks, guys!

I've read there's a huge leap in Sq between the Magni and Jotunheim. Is that fair? Also, would you say the Jot has good speed, attack and decay?

I've actually been through a lot of gear in the last year, and I find that a lot of cheaper gear falls apart with demanding, complex metal.

I've also owned a Mojo, idsd micro, oppo ha-2, ibasso D14 and a Dragonfly Red, so I've heard some good portable setups.

    1. yes, Jot has great speed, attach and decay.
    2. other than maybe the iDSD Micro, uh - those are good portable set ups. certainly not great and no where near approaching desktop quality.

Is there any advantage of having a brand new Yiggy instead of a model that was built in August of 2015. I just was wondering if the manufacturing of the unit evolved and if there is a difference between the two?

    @HitmanFluffy
Someone is selling one that is that old. Didn't want to let the cat out of the bag.

Now I know where to post questions like this. I couldn't find the section. I looked for a while. I don't like your so quick to dislike. It does hurt some.
