Monoprice Monolith: A new planar?

Good to know. I am a new headphone enthusiast. I have been a speaker only guy until about a year ago.

 

Do you know if any of these were sonically successful?

 

Beat me to it. Those were literally my exact thoughts on first seeing the pic of the open model.

 

Guess who also sells a dynamic model that has open and closed "flexibility"? It's Hifiman!

There has to be more than just coincidence here.

EDIT: Oh my goodness, the open planars look SO ugly from the other angles. Maybe they are better on the head....

 

When it comes to cars it's often said that polarizing designs or those that make you "uncomfortable" at first tend to have the most longevity. It's been a day now and I think I can safely say that's not what is happening here. Yikes!
Edit... they look like they were designed by adolescent boys, the cars I sketched as a 10 year old were equally derivative and gaudy, lol

 

Sometimes an Audeze LCD-2 and Hifiman HE-560 really like each other...

 

It would be really funny if these turn out to be competitive, it will shake up the industry a bit.

 

Did you notice the weight on these things....it says 500g for the closed planar....I guess some guys from Audez'e also went rogue

 

Definitely looked like HFM and Audeze employees eloped without telling anybody. Hopefully they can shake up the market a little bit and say f**k you to all the ridiculously priced planars that seem to be in style right now.

 

Let's not get too unrealistic. I've had to replace every single thing I've ever bought from Monoprice.

Although, that kind of puts them even closer to Audeze.

 

M1060 as in HE1060? Nice. Reminds me of AMD processor names.

 

The $199 one seems to be trying to compete with the hifiman edition S as that can be used as both open and closed too.

It kinda reminds me of the old Fischer audio fa-011 to be honest.



Hoping good things from them.

 

Gonna need to call the burn ward for that one.

 

Clearly monoprice is making a play into higher end audio in general. They now have monoblocks and multi channel amps, as well as some higher end (for them) speakers in the monolith line. I would be surprised in Dennis Murphy doesn't take the speakers and really turbo charge them.

 

going to buy both

going to mod the shit out of them

and then no one will want them
