I didn’t even use a NOS DAC, could only upsample to 192/24 because I can’t feed the DAC with higher bit rates. And still, the difference to my ears (with the default filter settings) is similar to taking a BT speaker from a room with lots of reverb to a well damped room: More resolution, more separation, less smearing of sounds into each other.
I had expected not to hear much of a difference, like with Roon upsampling, where I strain to hear differences at all. This isn’t “night and day”, either, of course, but it’s quite a bit more than I had expected. And it sounds great.
With RU6 it’s nice, but not as awe-inspiring as with the Daccord by far. To my ears, with 96 kHz source material: RU6 NOS <= RU6 OS < RU6 NOS + Roon linear phase < RU6 NOS + Roon minimum phase < RU6 + HQP poly-sinc-gauss-hires-lp < Daccord = Daccord + Roon minimum phase <= Daccord + Roon linear phase << Daccord + HQP poly-sinc-gauss-hires-lp
Interesting that, to my ears, linear phase sounds marginally better on the Daccord, while I think that minimum phase sounds quite a bit better on the RU6.
