A new thread where you can share your going to sleep faves.

    I'll start with mine.

Max Richter - Sleep - It is so freaking long that I have to remember to shut it off when I get up to take a leak or it will play for the 8 plus hours, haha.

Steve Reich- Sanctuary of Desire- His latest but honestly, almost anything by him is cerebral and sleep oriented.

    And finally:

Radiohead- For some reason Moon Shaped Pool or The King of Limbs at low volumes is quite comfortting.

Look forward to try all of your recs.

    Great thread idea @bixby

Some peaceful lute music often gets me in the zone:

Here's some English viol consort music for more Renaissance goodness.

As a prog fan, anything by Anathema. Their semi-atmospheric vibe gives me that elevated mind feel, which is very relaxing and always allows me to drift off when I need it (even with their up tempo drive to most tracks).

    "Invents" ambient music
"In January this year I had an accident. I was not seriously hurt, but I was confined to bed in a stiff and static position. My friend Judy Nylon visited me and brought me a record of 18th century harp music. After she had gone, and with some considerable difficulty, I put on the record. Having laid down, I realized that the amplifier was set at an extremely low level, and that one channel of the stereo had failed completely. Since I hadn't the energy to get up and improve matters, the record played on almost inaudibly. This presented what was for me a new way of hearing music - as part of the ambience of the environment just as the colour of the light and the sound of the rain were parts of that ambience. It is for this reason that I suggest listening to the piece at comparatively low levels, even to the extent that it frequently falls below the threshold of audibility."

This is absurd, by most standards an absolutely terrible choice, and absolutely not a recommendation.

But, for a couple of years in the mid-nineties I went to sleep to Yo La Tengo's album Painful. The reason being that I had a deaf, elderly cat which would sit outside my bedroom door and yowl at bedtime. (Don't look at me like that. She was much loved, got lots of attention, and had a heated sleeping pad nearby. But . . . cats.) I discovered that all the finger squeaks and feedback skronks on Painful would blend in with the cat's yelps and meeps and allow my brain to ignore them. This wouldn't have worked at all if I hadn't been very familiar with the album, which I love, and despite that I'd ocasionally be jolted awake by a quiet-LOUD dynamic shift.

It probably would be possible to put together a playlist of more lullaby suited Yo La Tengo songs. Georgia Hubley, in particular, has a sleepy, lullaby like voice.

James Blake piano and vocals processed by an AI developed to make sleep music

Here are a couple tracks I did 5-6 years ago for relaxation/sleep:
    supercluster
    frequency

For almost a year I listened to Get the f**k On Jolly Live - by Bonny Prince Billy and the Marquis de Tren but I can't find any streaming links. There's a studio version as well, but not nearly as good IMO.

    Great thread idea @bixby

Currently really enjoy going off to the following.
Blood Incantation - Timewave Zero, Ambient electronic music by a death metal band:punk:
Emily A. Sprague - Mount Vision, Water Memory, ‘Hill, Flower, Fog’. More modular synth ambient.
Pretty much anything by The Necks, who perform long improvised sorta Jazz pieces. Generally consisting of the same musical phrases repeated for at least 20 minutes.

    For me, it's...
    • Pink Floyd, The Wall, starting at "Mother."
    • Vangelis, Blade Runner Soundrack
I use the Amazon Music app's sleep timer. Never actually make it to the 60 minutes, so definitely snoring by then. ;)
