I'll probably still do 99% by ear and just use the measurements to check for errors and test my ears - don't want to be too OCD about the data. At the end of the day if it sounds right, it is right!

To keep noise out of the thread, I think I'm with purr1n thinking that the drivers aren't so much of interest as the cups are. Said as much there a while back, and biodyna seems to have only gotten better since the R10 was released. TH900 Frankendrivers, BWAHAHA

The most difficult part of crafting a headphone's response is finding the sweet spot between boredom and fatigue at any given volume level.

HD6-- and 580 are definitely in that sweet spot, but I would say the sub quantity and quality push it more towards boredom for me than fatigue considering the types of things I listen to. Pretty damn close though.

I suspect the 5SE might actually be discontinued given the $299 deals + the fact you can't find them on the HFM website anymore. Not sure why, these are definitely better than Sundara across the board for less.

I love long walks too and use headphones there most. Sine with Cipher & CAL pads is by far my favourite mobile hp right now, followed by QC35 when listening to podcasts etc or ease of use is top priority. The hassle of inserting IEMs, microphonics and not finding a really good pair has kept from using them, unless it's very hot outside.

Blue and black nozzles come empty stock so seized the opportunity to mod them. A tiny piece of felt smoothed out the highs of the black. Blue has less of a bass emphasis and the mids-through-treble transition is much more even with some open-cell foam.

When I had my R1's I didn't love the filters they came with either. I ended up using purple filters from a set of Trinity Audio Icarus III IEMs and they made the R1 perfect for me. (Bob, the owner of IMR used to work at Trinity and their IEM's filters are interchangeable with the R1 and R1 Zenith.) Here is a pic of all the filters that came with the Icarus III:

That's a ridiculous amount of options. At that point you might as well provide empty nozzles and tiny pieces of damping and let the user DIY. I'm having a lot of fun messing with different materials in the empty nozzles. There's a certain resonant quality to the lower treble that fatigues me a little bit even if I darken it. Too bad I can't get inside to place tiny strips of dynamat here and there.
