I'm not confident that there's gonna be anything good, based on the last three that I've been to. There might be 2-3 decent sounding rooms out of everything you go to.

I don't disagree with your statement. However, I enjoy them. It is more the overall experience than how many truly good rooms there are.

I always find it awkward when I'm asked how the system sounded. I may or may not go, depending on if I can get tickets to the Nov SBAF meet.

And notwithstanding the questionable gear parings and compromised hotel room acoustics (not to mention terrible music selections), the fact for me is that even those thrown together high-end systems are a qualitatively different experience than what I get from my home stereo.

I may think things are overpriced or not ideal or in some ways bad, but I generally find the systems more pleasurable than my system at home in the low four figures.

Unfortunately I can't say the same for myself. I enjoy my modest system more and think that the $150 overnight sensations sound better than most of the speakers there in FR response alone. Wish you could have stayed for longer last meet to get to hear them. Yggdrasil + Odyssey Stratos + OSMT would blow most setups away in a smaller room.

Yeah, I don't comment on rooms really. It is binary. I either like a setup or not. But there is no way I can figure out sonic aspects of multiple components I don't know thrown together in one system.

The one common thing I've found is that every single McIntosh system made the speakers sound warm and mushy. After playing around with moving speakers around and measuring, I'm more aware of how a pair of speakers will sound in a room as well.
