DCA Expanse: impressive with great bass. Perhaps not the most dynamic. Think I could hear the damped quality some have spoken about.

Warwick Bravura: intriguing level of detail, but was distorting b/c amp has a toggle for high-low input and wasn't on right position. Clamps hard.

Hifiman HE1000SE: AB'd against the above, and I prefer them to all. But you hear that bright tilt.

Enleum Amp-23: very brief audition. Surprised me by not being anywhere near as warm as reviews suggest. First listen with Expanse was "good, pretty intriguing." Second with HE1000SE was "hmm, this is the best I've heard these." But it doesn't sound particularly tubey to me.

Not a conclusion to be drawn on it really. Too brief a listen. Solid-state amps sound pretty similar.

Where did you get the chance to listen to all those headphones? I think it was ZMFs recently? In Europe?

Turns out there are some excellent headphone shops in and around London.

Ah! Hm, I’ll do a city trip with my daughter later this year. Maybe I can convince her to go to London, not to Paris. 0:-)
