@Armaegis Unfortunately, it varies depending on the driver. I've experienced horribly distorted treble (similar to low bitrate bluetooth audio), weird bass (strong sub bass with little to no midbass or upper bass), thin, dry, and forward midrange, emphasized and sharp treble. It just changes the way your audio sounds.
@Armaegis During the two weeks, it made me want to pull my hair out and throw my pc. It was worth it though. Now that I've figured it out, everything is stable and not only does it sound normal, but there must have been something wrong with the bit depth not actually being 16bit. It sounds so much more clear and liquid now.
Jriver's WDM driver also allows true 24bit throughput now and show's as either 16 or 24 depending on what it's set to, whereas before it always showed as 16bit.
Linux can have similar problems. Bottom line is that a PC has to multitask which is achieved by time slicing. Thus, processes can be interrupted and made to wait. If your linux pc is tuned for audio, the priorities will be changed accordingly. I've long-since forgotten the technical detail.
Windows is usually worse for audio compared to mac or linux. Really need to strip that shit down if you want decent performance. Be it for audio or gaming. Winutil is pretty good for it.
