An 88th generation Daoist priest from an oral tradition. A poorly stated explanation is that part of the idea is to never get locked into a rigid frame of reference. Each time he taught the same subject, it was different, not randomly, but enough to keep it dynamically alive rather than rote.
The line comes from my part in a kerfluffle in which I explained my take on having respect for this teacher via a sort of meditation on Zhuang-Zi (a text I recommend highly, even in its comic-book form).
