I'm not buying. or rather - I have a problem with this article in that it concentrates on 'popular' music. coming of age, I did connect to a fair bit of popular music, but pretty early on I started diving into some pretty unpopular stuff at the time: I discovered and extensively listened to Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Joy Division and Jimi Hendrix while all my pears were obsessed with hip hop, which at the time I could not stand. I do agree with the conclusion of the article though: popular or not, it is much harder for me to connect with music now compared to my 20's. what I also noticed is that I have not the impulse or energy to sift through, research the music with the same commitment I used to in my 20's... now that I am writing this it hit me that one of the reasons might be that sometime along the way I started uncovering less and less impressive music on each of my runs, and perhaps got naturally disappointed. this is why I am so impressed when the algorithms throw something new and engaging at me.
