Pull the guts. Secretly replace with Bifrost Multibit gen 5 internals. Best AGD DAC ever!

Using the experience and impressions of others is a one way trip down a very dark hole. Just don't. If I can't listen to it first I don't buy it. Period. No matter what anybody else thinks. I've listened to highly praised kit and it was crap in MY opinion, and vice-versa. Just my jaded 0.02c worth.

I use the experience and impressions of other people I trust. These people don't even have to have the same preferences as me. It's easy enough if there are common reference points. Just need to triangulate or calibrate. This is one reason why this community and the loaner program was founded. Get common gear out to different ears and establish reference points.

I wouldn't trust anyone at HF. Too many random people, with random gear, using random methods, possibly even different masters of recordings to assess gear. And the shills.

I mean an AGD S19 or NFB-1 would sound great if its compared to ... nothing else.

I owned an NFB1-AMP for awhile and posted a mini review of it in comparison with the Jotunheim:

    http://www.superbestaudiofriends.or...i Multibit-comparison.3533/page-3#post-111975

I found the NFB1-AMP to be very thick, coloured and slow. It would make some music, such as electronic, sound very euphonic and fun. But music with real instruments (such as electric guitar) just sounded wrong.

I was comparing it to the Jotunheim at the time. They are really polar opposites in sound. The Jotunheim being very sharp and fast with a flatish soundstage. Neither amps are neutral. The NFB1-AMP is sonically dishonest. I was very impressed with the build quality and the precise & tactile nature of the volume control, however. Such a pity that the amp is voiced to be thick, wide and slow on purpose?

@Marvey I think your problem with the NFB-1 is that you aren't pairing it with the S19 to unlock its full potential.

I imagine this being piled up with the S19, next to the removed toilet in Brencho's garage.

De-solder all of the PCM1704 chips and I'll buy them for $100.

Edit: Oh wait... that doesn't use chips. Nope.

Just got what I think is the older style standard version that uses the v2 driver. The driver was a bit fiddly but once installed it's alright.

Have to say it brings my T60RP and Argon to life pretty darn good. I admittedly haven't used uber high end stuff but I can discern if something is lacking or enjoyable and this is a very enjoyable unit. I have used a number of similar priced amps and it is probably superior.

The highs can have a bit much glare at times so I might prefer the R2R.11. The imaging and sound stage is very good and the low end is just superb. Even before I had APO applied It was impressive. Note this is not the latest version I am using and I am treble sensitive.
