    Hi,

I have had this setup for quite some time now, and I'd like to check the tubes and bias are still good. I tested the system by ear recently vs my studio setup and I found that the performance was poor: certainly too big a difference to just be headphones vs speakers.

I quickly looked up how to do the biasing measurements etc, and when I put the multimeter into L- and L+ on the pro sockets I get a reading of 1, but on R- and R+ I get 98. It seems odd for the channels to be so mismatched (considering they both sound fine).

So I think I am doing it wrong...

Can anyone give me a hand? Pictures or in person help (Australia) welcome..........

Justin did a really good video on checking and adjusting the offset and balance for Stax amps:

Your right chan offset is way off. Adjust the correct trimmer with a non conductive screwdriver and see how close you can get it to 0 (under 10 should be fine). Also, make sure you do your measurements after the rig has been on and warmed up for a while.
