With the proper speakers, an 800 mW per channel amp using a directly heated triode from almost a century ago is a good reality check on how far we've gone in the quest for high fidelity.

I built this SE71A with 3-stage circuit in the late 90s.


I've simplified it to a 2-stage choke capacitance coupled circuit.


Proof of concept that a headphone amp can drive speakers.

 

Very nice.

 

So how does it sound?

 

It sounds really good. But obviously I'm biased since I built it.
