Apologies if this has been covered at all before (didn’t see it in search), but…

Anyone else have the Bose Quiet Comfort 30/35 Gaming headset (with noise reduction and microphone), that connects to USB with a circular “station” in between, that then connects from there (via a 3.5mm male, balanced/4 connectors) to the headset via 2.5mm male stereo/3 connectors). Said 3.5mm male to 2.5mm male is integral to the boom/mic.

I can’t plug the USB into Kara (duh), and it’s a very decent sounding headset (that I own already)

I’m trying to figure out how/if I might best give this a try as an audio headset plugged into my brand new Kara.

MIGHT it be as easy as just getting either:

    1. A cable with 1/4” male at one end (Kara end), and 2.5mm male at the other end? (Skipping the microphone boom piece) If such exists), OR
    2. A cable with 1/4” male at one end (3 connectors), and 2.5mm Female (4 connectors) at the OTHER end, and use the boom as an “adapter” (I know the mic won’t work and don’t care.
    3. Is there any other way folks can think of? The whole “thing that plugs into the headphones is 3 connector 2.5mm male at one end, and 3.5mm 4 connector male at the other end” has me confused badly

Hopefully, being a super-noob to headphones/cans, my ignorance isn’t too large and someone out here has already DONE this.

Thanks much in advance for any pointers/assist/cheap solution

Doesn't this headset already come stock with a separate non-mic cable for plugging into regular devices?

It *did*, but we recently moved cross-country, and that cable isn’t findable.

I’m wondering if I can just use a stereo 2.5mm plug (headset end) with 3 connectors to a 2.5/3.5 adapter… and then a 3.5 to 1/4” adapter. I spent almost 2 hours yesterday looking for something that would go “direct”, but had no luck (seems 2.5 is a bit proprietary/not as popular?).

I found such a combo on Amazon and the total is like $25, so I think I’m just going to “risk it”.

(I really AM a total NOOB wrt: all things headphone - I’m just super curious to try em out on the Kara as a way of listening where wifey doesn’t always yell “too loud” - when it’s peaking at 80dB… ;)

So an update. I received the various needed 2.5/3.5 and 1/4” adapters so I could try out my Bose QC gaming headset (sans the microphone boom) fed from the Kara 1/4” headphone jack. Here’s my observations, after playing several dozen Jazz and Classical CD’s which I know very well.
    1. This is no way, no how a substitute for my Apogees; in every regard (dynamics, bloom, soundstage, imaging, tonality, frequency response) the speakers destroyed the headset
    2. There is simply nowhere near enough bass, of any kind
    3. Frankly, I’m quite disappointed
    4. Gain was very similar to what I used from Kara to the Classe’ DR9/Apogees, maybe within 2dB volume matched (perceived; I didn’t have to turn down/up much going from speaks to headphones…)
    5. Getting the standard 2.5mm stereo plug to *stay* in the Bose was tricky/fiddly; some head movements disconnected it. The mic boom 2.5mm headset plugs in with a little “gripper”that snaps/holds…

Worth the approx $25 to try it out, but…no thanks, not satisfying enough to be worth the cabling hassles

now, back to the problem at hand. I would like a decent set of cans that CAN be a reasonable substitute for the speakers for those times when wifey doesn’t want “MY music” (she’s mostly fine with most jazz and classical, etc., but she really can’t handle my rock and prog tastes).

But, I don’t want to spend a ton of money testing things out over and over and over again; i.e. I’d like to get started at least close to a destination I know won’t be, “ah well, this sucks and is not even close enough, so why bother”…

What ENTRY level can’s might people recommend that’d be a significant step up from the Bose, but not into the 4 digit realm? Used HD600 or 650? Something else?

Anyone out there a huge planar fan (e.g. Maggies, Apogees, etc.) with all the “tastes” that come with planars, have any strong recommendations, say in the sub $400 or so range?
    TIA

So let’s close out this (in hindsight, rather mis-guided post/question - LOL).

I’ve just purchased @crazychile ’s Koss ESP950’s. Because: electrostat/planar… and, I’ve been a planar fan and owner (speaks) for 34+ years now… so THEY will be my “enter” into headphone listening in anger…

But man, was super disappointed in the Bose’s on my big rig. LOL
