This is an extension of the classical snobs thread with some filtering:

    1) Variations, transcriptions or paraphrases: Emphasis is on taking a theme and developing it through variations (famous well known example is the Goldberg Variations) or paraphrases/transcriptions - taking a relatively well-known theme and transcribing it for another instrument or treating it in some loose-form not as formal as a set of theme and variations.
    2) Selections encouraged to be Dragonforce type displays of instrumental virtuosity and acrobatics, although this is not a prereq
    3) Jazz is acceptable because most jazz is taking a standard and developing it similar to the above.
    4) The actual band Dragonforce is not acceptable in this thread!!!!

I'll start with a theme most Americans should know, that Marine thingy:

A better version without the visuals, this is a live version, see how the audience laughs each time the familiar theme returns, that is the magic of a good paraphrase/variation:

Paraphrase by Godowsky on a famous Strauss waltz:

Another Godowsky paraphrase of a Strauss piece, this time Die Fledermaus, if you familiarize yourself with the themes you can see the genius of Godowsky as he gets 3-4 themes going at the same time layered one on top of the other:
