I'm sure I'm not the first one who has pondered the possible results from this idea. IMG-7110.jpg
I happen to have a 6xx frame that @Gazny graciously donated long time ago (because I accidentally chopped up the voice coil wire during a mod LOL, sorry... ) AND @E_Schaaf / ETA team had some spare experimental drivers lying around so I thought it might be a fun modding project to reverse engineer the Senn frame then tweak to fit 50mm drivers along with our own set of mods.

drivers in the picture: N52 600 ohm Beryllium coated drivers, N52 300 ohm LCP drivers (?)

BAM! Well, there you go. EZPZ

Now with our own little twist:

now we can add various 75mm foam rings to further tweak the sound from the rear baffle.

I'll keep updating this thread for fun little project. @E_Schaaf will be providing measurements w different drivers to see how each driver reacts to the same set of frames. theoretically, Sennheiser pads and headbands should fit perfectly and can be easily swapped from your pair of 6x0 lying around. Feel free to suggest design ideas or any suggestions!

I was successful in mangling a 600ohm HD540 driver into the HD650 baffle. The result was less than impressive with shrill highs and hollow sound even if nothing was wrong with the install per say.
I figured without knowing the Q parameters of the original and transplanted driver the mismatch was really unknown and luck wasn't on my side with this failed experiment. I hope yours goes better.

still need to fine tune the measurements, but getting closer! Also first time trying out threaded inserts, very cool idea. I might use this for ETA products to make the finish look more polished like LTS's and @ext1 's designs :D

That 3DP 6XX baffle is gorgeous, much nicer than original. Looking forward to seeing what happens with random 50mm drivers. Your Sennheiser baffle would you be willing to sell copies or upload the file for community? Like the T50RP open alpha project by mrspeakers.

If any of these drivers are any good it’d be cool if you would share the source so we can order too but I know thats bad for business, so even just sharing these cool builds is still appreciated. Ive looked at sweet drivers on aliexpress and alibaba but sampling is cost prohibitive so I am not mad that you would rather not share secret sauces.

Why do you not print your own driver grills or cup grills? @E_Schaaf says they are not suitable because they cannot be printed thin enough for minimum reflections etc which is why he goes with metal grills. Ive seen small and detailed 3DP before, so what are the other issues exactly with printing such fine structures as grills? Not strong enough, too much hassle, or impossible to print without some uber printer?

3DP is the next level for headphone mods and boutique manufacturers too (ETA etc). Ive seen some selling FR BLH speakers, and others on diya building multi-way horns like synergy horns. I’d like to try 3D printing. Besides diy headphones, would be helpful for replacing or upgrading parts on some of my old vintage headphones and other things I guess. Have you found use for 3DP outside headphones? Trying to justify space and cost in my head right now. :)

Maybe not grills but good-enough fences can be printed with a well-tuned FDM printer or quite easily using photocuring tech.
Fence + fabric is enough, proven by a lot of commercial stuff out there including the Senns.
