all the music is from Tidal

Will try next time the noise is happening. It’s dead silent right now, no static blips. Which makes me think the source isn’t in my control.

also mconnect doesn’t let you change system volume. You can but it doesn’t do anything.

connecting the Pi2AES to Ethernet or connecting the iPod to the Pi2AES? I don’t know how to do the latter. CCK adapter and just plug it into one of the USB ports?

    thanks!

I should have disabled this for both Volumio and MoOde to maximize sound quality. :) So it makes sense that mConnect volume has no impact.

I'm pretty sure they mean Ethernet.

Mconnect shows the software volume change but it doesn’t actually change the volume.

I enabled software volume for Volumio and it lets me. I kind of need it to have usable volume range.

Acutally I meant the other: connect the idevice to the Pi with a cable into the USB port on the Pi. I didn't realize the source was Tidal coming into the device via wifi anyway, so maybe not a useful suggestion (unless the problem is the wifi receiver on the Pi).

Same issue when using your laptop as the source? Same with files on the laptop vs streaming Tidal? Laptop (files) via Ethernet rather than wifi? Thinking about network vs device problems.

I’ll try both next time it happens but AirPlay is the only way I know to get sound to the Pi2AES from my laptop.

thanks for the suggestions this does help start to narrow down on the source of the noise.

I guess one good thing to do to eliminate a problematic WiFi in the Pi2AES would be to connect my computer directly to the Pi2AES via Ethernet. Would that work?

Worth a try, and should just be a matter of connecting the wires, then in Settings/Network (Volumio; idk Moode) turning off Wireless Network and making sure Automatic IP is on under Wired Network.

If you have music files on the computer and your computer is connected to the internet wirelessly, you could also test with local files vs the Tidal stream to see if it's something else in the wireless network.

Oh, you don't have Ethernet on your computer already? Maybe worth trying idevice-to-Pi-via-cable first, if you have a CCK, before going out and buying more hardware. Again turn off Wireless Networking in the software.

Seems like as usual my suggestions are not solving problems but instead making work. Sorry!

No! It’s great the noise is driving me nuts I’ve spent way more than an adapter and cable on trying to resolve it (2 Pangea power cables, Pangea coaxial cables, $180 furman power conditioner, Sigma11 power supply, etc! )

Your advice is very much appreciated!!!

    :piratemug:

I didn’t know I could hook up my iPod to the Pi2AES via usb and get audio in that way. This thing is a Swiss Army knife!

Can't connect directly; it would need to go through a network router. Does your wifi router have two ethernet ports? Connect both the computer and the Pi2AES to ethernet ports on the router. That would eliminate using wifi. If your wifi router has only one ethernet port, you can expand it to more ports with an ethernet switch for about $20.

how about connecting the Pi2AES to Ethernet directly and connecting my iPod to the Pi2AES directly via usb?

I also have 'static' in my right ear with certain frequencies, but unfortunately it's my ear, not the equipment. Getting old is a ..... well, you know.

Hi. Newbie question, can i use the pi2aes using the d90 as dac without connecting it to an ethernet and using a hard disk as music source? I just need a is2 transport for the d90 DAC

What about: 1) connect Pi2AES with an Ethernet (RJ-45) cable to your router, assuming the router has a spare Ethernet port. 2) Use your iPod or iPhone wireless as usual to control play. Since you are playing from Tidal, the Tidal stream goes directly to the Pi+Pi2AES, the iPod or iPhone only serves as a remote control, so how they are connected to the rest of your home network should be immaterial.

You can. My recommendation would be to put your music on an USB drive that you plug into one of the USB ports of your Pi2AES system, and run moOde on it. I did that for a while for a stand-alone system at work, with a 2TB Samsung USB SSD. I used ext4 (Linux) format for the SSD, because I could easily update it using either rsync on Linux or USB Copy on my home Synology NAS. I don't what other disk formats are supported by moOde.

Does MoOde works with Qobuz and airplay without paying an extra (contrary to volumio needing virtuoso yearly subscription) ?
