FS: Parasound HDCD 1600 dac, vintage R2R

This Parasound was purchased after hearing the 1100 version. I think that it betters the 1100, in my systems, when using the XLR outputs. Inputs include AES, optical, and coaxial inputs. My local tech metered this 1600, and reports that it is in spec.Otherwise it sounds like the 1100.

Operationally, it stays warm when plugged in to a powered socket in a standby mode. The power light will be out, in this state, and comes on fully when switched to power up/on. Cosmetically the dac is quite good, but not perfect. The top edge of the faceplate might reveal a scratch in the right light.

It is an appealing vintage item, because sometimes one just has to know. It is a heavy piece, and fortunately does not have a old style captive power cord. Pick your own power cord, or use a generic one included along with original box and manual. $500 shipped, F&F, for contributors.

 

I think that if this Parasound does not sell, I might post it over on US Audiomart for a wider audience. Or just keep it and enjoy for a bit longer. It's a good DAC, and a strong value even against some newer offerings within its price range.
