Has anyone had significant experience with the Shure SE425?

I'm going through a phase where I want to find an excellent $300 IEM (not because of the other thread, just a coincidence). I've tried the other TOTL shure iems (except the KSE1500) and didn't think they were exceptional but the inner fidelity chart for the SE425 intrigues me. The 30 and 300hz graphs look just like the Sennheiser HD800. It has low distortion, a good frequency range and good isolation.

How does it sound? I'm thinking of buying it from amazon but I hate keeping things I won't use, and I also don't like returning things since it feels like I'm ripping the retailer off.

If anyone is interested in how this phase is going, I've purchased like 10 $100 or so IEMs and they have all sucked horribly. Just garbage relative to my Roxannes. But I keep trying for some reason.

I have had a pair for maybe 2.5 years? Imo it really depends on the type of music you're listening to and also your state of mind. As strange as that sounds, in the correct mainframe with appropriate music they sound pretty damn good. But if you're expecting any hard hitting bass or extended highs then you're looking at the wrong iem already.

The chart suggests they have decent highs (I don't like sybilance any way, especially with an IEM). Any more information? What did you switch to and why?

Decent highs and not sibilant at all. I switched to an InEar SD2 which I found more natural and airy sounding. Harder hitting bass as well. What other information are you looking for?

The 425 was a running joke on HF a while back for being so mediocre that people would pretend recommend it to new people.

So, yes, I highly recommend it. You should totally buy it!

Do you mind elaborating on how it is mediocre?
