No worry. I'll just want to provide mine to give a comparison with a SE215. I don't want anybody to compare our results ;) . grain of salt mandatory for all measurements. I'll use a vibrolabs vibro veritas system.

Flat response curves! (At least for 20Hz<f<1kHz) What a concept! $92!

Dunno what I did but I maybe fucked up my pair of TFZ Series 5. Bass are missing too much, ( think broken fit). Maybe I used the wrong needle or inserted it too deeply. Dunno. The fact is I have now the feeling I can't find a proper seal anymore on the right side.

I'm waiting my measurements rig to check but I just ordered a second pair to check something else

I highly encourage people to be patient and let them run for a few dozens of hour before to do any mod. My 2 cents.

Just open it up. If you press the needle too hard it will hit the driver.

    The update from India ...
This is why I prefer not to mod these things. After 16 hours, these are settling down nicely thank you. Its a more polite version of the Fostex TH X00 (naturally my opinion) and I like it this way.

From what I hear right now, those iems convey a tasteful rich spacious sound yet fast and clean. Very enjoyable so far and right up my alley for iems and/or closed headphones. Problem is I don't know exactly what i'm listening to because I messed up things. That's what I bought another pair and will let it run for a few days before to play with any mod.

Cover the vent with some tape and the bass will come back like stock. AND, it is not necessary to insert the needle deeply. 1 mm is deep enough. If you don't like it, cover the vent with some tape. I also tried covering the (already punctured) vent wth tape and then poking a very small hole through the tape and measured it. You can finetune the bass response that way.

Don't know how many people have heard these and the re1000, but feedback from ClieOS on a local forum:

"A bit surprise how good it sounds for the price - very solid performance. It has kind of a similar tuning to Hifiman RE1000 - warmish, decent but smooth treble, really sweet vocal range and a very deep rumbling bass. The big difference is that RE1000's treble is much more delicate and soundstage is more expensive. However, given the big price different, I will say Series 3 is still an absolutely good buy."

Nope. My Sansa Clip + ;)

Problem is if I put tape on the hole of my left iem, the sound is now almost muted when the fit is perfect ( the tip almost makes a "pop" when I pull it out) . It's like the driver would lack air to move.?

That's driver flex for you, coupling is too tight indeed. Try using micropore instead of solid tape to see if it helps.

@sorrodje, piercing the tape with a very thin needle might help.
I might be wrong, but there might be another vent, in the rim between shell and faceplate? Funny, I have been removing and reapplying the tape, without facing any problem at all. when measuring the iems I also have the shells mounted in a way that they seal absolutely tightly. And measurements don't indicate any problem as described by you.

@stratocaster do you have any ideas on how to flatten >1kHz?

@stratocaster : yup a thin hole in the tape solves the problem for me .

Btw I'm not satisfied with stock ( Nice sound but too much bass) nor with modded (shouty and not enough bass) . I didn't achieve to securer a comfortable and isolating fit neither. I have some other tips which will arrive later. In my experience with IEMs , fit is the main point to fix before anything else, it can affect dramatically the result.

so, @sorrodje you did the harakiri mod, then taped over the vent hole and poked a hole in the tape?

I'm not quite sure if you can tell from the pictures I posted, but I believe (i'll have to double check) the center of the driver lines up with the center of the vent hole

That is actually very useful info. So you're saying it's entirely possible to go too deep and have the needle perforate the diaphragm of the driver? I'm planning to order another pair of these to experiment with, so that'd be very good to know. So are the halves just glued together then? I've taken apart a few Fostex TE02ns, but these are like 2.5X the price so I'm a bit reluctant to wrench it open in fear of damaging something.

Not strato, but IEMs are supposed to have a peak between 1 and 7 KHz because they bypass the pinna and interact differently with the ear canal, how big of a peak? Well, that's largely individual as we are all made diferent. A flat-measuring IEM will sound dark and muffled.
