Haha yeah, I know what you mean, if I play some songs at really quiet volume, the weird FR and accentuations make them sound great. But as soon as I turn it up or land on some tracks (female vocals in particular) I have to rip them off my ears...

Honestly, for the price, they're pretty inferior IEMs. The sound is fuzzy/grainy even without looking at the messed up FR. They just happen to be so fricken weird that they have a bit of a novelty effect for me. I've tried everything to make them palatable, but sadly they don't get much better. One of the only positives is that they fit pretty comfortably in my ear, but I can't keep them there for long cause of the sound.

Thanks. Guess I will have to work on really heavy EQ with these, at least the distortion is low enough.

The one good thing I will say is that the tips that come with the planamic work very well on the Massdrop Plus if you like a deep insertion -- the default silicone tips for the planamic have a very shallow stem that put the nozzle right at the opening of the tips. It fits great on the Plus. Now, just gotta find where I can buy these cheapo/generic tips by themselves...

I purchased a pair of the Planamics during the Literally Prime Day sale and have to say I am quite pleased with my purchase.

Before I get ostracized from the forum - let me preface this by saying: the tuning of these WILL NOT be for a lot of people!

I have debated with myself for a few days if I wanted to actually write anything about these, but I have to give kudos where kudos are deserved.

The driver in these is very capable and scales really well on my dedicated setup. (SFD-1 -> Krell Klone) The low distortion + bass when called for and rolled-off top end makes for great easy listening sessions. The Mass"Drop" description of these is pretty spot on: "Warm, coherent, impactful, liquid, and rich, it has a different timbre than you’d get from dynamic or balanced-armature IEM".

I don't really want to write anything more and get anyone excited to go out and try these, because quite frankly, I don't think anyone here except maybe @Warrior would enjoy something like this.

Thank you to @CEE TEE and team for this unique earphone. Cool of you guys to go out on a limb and try something a little different. These are just guilty pleasure enjoyable - I've taken a break from my Andromeda and LCD-i4 to just tap my foot and enjoy my music in a different kind of light.

Here are the EQ settings I am currently using with the Planamic:

Not sure if anyone here kept theirs or not, but I truly enjoy these. The caveat is that they shine with a little more power - I would say, not as much of an issue as the Pinnacle P1, but if you want to listen at a higher volume, then power does seem to be needed or things get a little sloppy.

The tips that come installed seem to work just fine for me and I haven't felt the need to try anything else.

I have been using the Planamic exclusively with the ES100 in balanced operation lately and have really been enjoying the pairing. I have attached the EQ settings I am using with the ES100. A good start for people who enjoy electronic music. I have the ES100 setup to automatically drop the preamp 6db - adjust your preamp according to your own setup. The sound reminds me of the Paradox with less thickness in the mid/upper bass, but that is my personal preference with the EQ that is being applied.

Yes. This is just a planar magnetic driver. The Abyss is the same as far as I remember. No magnets on the back of the driver interestingly.

It’s a damn shame these don’t sound better. Using a planar magnetic driver with magnets only on one side to reduce weight is a cool idea for an iem (and would it somehow reduce the size? Seems like it would not because it’s got less magnetic force on the diaphragm.)

I think it’s the only ortho iem without huge driver casings sitting outside the ear and they’re closed unlike the Audeze and monoprice.

There’s Tin P1 which also is a closed planar iem and Obravo Cupid which uses a DD+Planar combo

Talking about those, I am surprised that there is no review of the Tinhifi P1 here on SBAF. Figured someone would have tried and measured these too with SBAFs love for orthos and the excellent reviews they get all around. Maybe it's too cheap to be considered worthy :p
