I've been looking for a high-end traditional 2-way for my desk that would sound great at lower SPLs (due to being closer to the speaker) and the Carrera seemed perfect!

    There were just 2 caveats:
-They're rear-ported, which wouldn't work with my desk's position, or anywhere I'd ever move my desk
-They're deep as fuck, which also isn't great on a desk

So I ended up making the cabinet taller, but less deep and placed a port on the front since I had the extra vertical space

I've gathered all the parts at this point, here's a test I did to make sure the crossover worked:

If any Canadians are thinking diy but would struggle with crossover assembly, definitely contact solen! I sourced all my parts from there are they assembled the crossovers as well for a reasonable fee

More coming soon! Super excited to start assembling cabs, and hopefully posting this gets me off my ass long enough to start doing it

Are there any sound effects of changing baffle dimensions, or the distance between woofer and tweeter?

I've tried different cabinet sizes in foam core board, but have only tried changing depth so the baffle stays the same.

I'm looking forward to your updates, I'd considered Carreras after the OSMT, ended up with the Zaph SR71 instead, which I preferred to the OSMT even with the SR71 in foam board (I had to stop working on proper cabs when the virus screwed up everything over here).

Yes, changing baffle dimensions and center-to-center distance between woofer and tweeter will affect several things: baffle step compensation and lobing/phase interaction. Some (most?) x-over sims include a baffle step calculator, there's that. Moving drivers around on a baffle can affect the response by way of edge diffraction, too.

Yeah this is my (limited) understanding of it as well. Changing baffle height is okay, as long as baffle width and driver distances/alignment are kept the same. Paul Carmody ok'd the idea of a taller cab somewhere over on techtalk under those conditions

Another one to keep in mind, too, especially on a desktop will be the "floor" bounce/boundary reinforcement you'll get from the desktop surface. Changing the height of the speaker will change the "floor" bounce. Something to play around with if you have a measurement setup.

That's a good point actually, I'll do some research on it. There seems to be a lot less on desk bounce last time I checked but I'm assuming it's the same principle as floor bounce. The woofer's going to be about a 12-14 inches above my desk when on stands so I figured it would be better than my setup now at least
