Suggestion for a Standard / Official Reference Track List

    Apologies if this has already been suggested.

    I think it would be a good idea if we had a standard or official list of about a dozen or so reference tracks. That way we have a common reference when people are describing the characteristics or problems in their audio chain. It would make it easier for members to compare their experiences and impressions of equipment.

    The tracks should be readily available and not expensive so that everybody can obtain some or all of them. Of course, the tracks should also be a good test of audio equipment.

    I would suggest a track, except my music library is quite limited and I'm just beginning to expand my musical horizons.

    What are people's thoughts?

    I think everyone has different enough tastes and ways of assessing gear that probably it's not that helpful to try and have a common track list. I think it is helpful to have a common vocabulary for talking about this things, and this is I think done implicitly across the site. But take a look at the reference recordings thread, some good posts in there which explain what people use as test tracks and why.
