Shove up the gain a bit. As long as you don't clip, it should be fine. More lively with higher gain.

I'm still waiting for my PH3D to arrive from Spain (supposedly tomorrow). I've got fresh batteries and the op amps from Mouser ready to go. I have a fairly resolving system, though not a high end power house: VPI Traveler->Dynavector 10x5->Avid Pellar->Rogue Metis tube pre w/Shuguang Black Treasure 6SN7s->Parasound HCA SS amps dual mono->Legacy Audio Classics. All my cables are Morrow Audio level 3 and 4.

Previous to putting the Avid Pellar in line I was using a Lounge Audio LCR MkIII and absolutely loved it. In some ways the Avid (at 4x the cost) was a let down. There was some lovely synergy between the 10x5/Lounge/Rogue that I really enjoyed. I'm a sucker for the tube sound and the Lounge did not remove any warmth. The Avid is super detailed with better dynamics and extension than the Lounge but in my system it's a little too dry for my taste. I'm very much hoping that the Sutherland will give me the right combination of the Avid's increased resolution and range while letting the tubes in my pre work their magic. I can't afford to go any father up the preamp "chain" right now. If the Sutherland doesn't do it for me than I'll send it on its way and put the Lounge back in line.
