Leaving out dust cover results in more air, more last octave, and faster transients by a small bit.

There is no conflict if you try and determine what you yourself prefer.

Ok, so i tried out both the SBAF-Serious EQ, and the harman target EQ, I would say it does greatly improve the headphone, I really like both presentations that the 2 different EQ provide, but i haven't decided which i like more yet.

One thing it does though is make the headphones not so diffused sounding, the same large soundstage is still there there's not really any reduction of distance in stuff that's supposed to be distant, vocals especially female are a bit more forward, and bass i would say is excellent now not too bassy but neither too lean.

Bumpity bump from the past, @atomicbob convinced me to try the HD800 again this time the S version. He uses Sonarworks which for me is not an option but i adapted @sorrodje EQ settings using pink noise and listening tests and so far there is promise.
Needed a bit less reduction on 5,5khz and a tiny bit more on 10k. But this sounds the most correct to me.

Makes Sense. My EQ Settings (using the exact same configuration for years) are made for SDR modded HD800 so it sounds legit to adjust a little bit for a HD800S.

My current setup is still an old RME ADI2 pro, a very old ECP torpedo III . Oldies but goldies :)

Oh man i still remember the T3 i had... Though the Phonitor X is very nice too with the Yggdrasil A2. That T3 was the only one that dealt with the A1's prickly highs. Sold it to get into speakers though so worth it in the end!

But yeah your EQ settings have the best low end i've heard and i tried a bunch of presets.

Here is what I am currently experimenting with an unmodified, stock HD800S (no Sonarworks):

    20250213 HD800S EQ no Sonarworks graph.png

    20250213 HD800S EQ no Sonarworks values.png

15 Hz filter is a Low Shelf
    All others are peaking type

All subject to change over time.

EQ is like different kinds of flavors, you want to try them all lol. Wish my dsp had more slots though. Can only use 2 out 4 for the HD800's and that's with me sacrificing the 4th one i usually left untouched for testing or stuff that doesn't need EQ.

Anyway i will give your settings a shot as well!

Are the 6 filters listed all "peaking" filters, none are shelving filters?

fwiw, my current EQ that's working well:

15 Hz is a low shelf, all others are peak.

sorry, unable to edit or delete my recent post but all 4 shelving filters are Q of .71. The "1.8" is a mistake

    Playing around with this:
    Screenshot 2025-02-18 190046.png

    50hz +3,4dB 0,5
    2483 +1,4dB 1 currently testing this band.
    5634 -4,2dB 4
    10000 -2 Q 2

    All peak filters

Quite happy so far but way more testing required!
