"I'm the one who owned the Gen Va and auditioned the Prism and Audio Logic at the same time in the same system (along with a Meridian 508-20 & 566/518 combo) and bought the Audio Logic. This is not to take anything from the Prism DA-1. It is an extraordinary piece of gear and does some things, INMHO, better than any DAC I've heard..top end air, for example. I could have been happy with either one. Here was what *I* found. Your mileage may vary.

    Audio Logic
Pros: liquidity, midrange tonality and depth of soundstage. Local(for me) designer and easy upgradeability.
Cons: small, relatively unknown manufacturer, tube output stage that sounds good but with inherent issues particular to tube gear.

    Prism DA-1
Pros: best top end of any DAC I've heard. Super clean and pristine sounding. Julian Denis[Dunn] one of the best designers on the planet.
Cons: still very slightly "techie" sounding, not quite the liquidity or musicality of the Audio Logic.

Pro audio piece that has absolutely no WAF In fact lets face it..it's ugly. Not upgradeable from what I could see. Price considerably higher than AL-34. (Though frankly, that was not a consideration for me.) At this level,no matter what product you choose, the distinctions will be subtle. I could have a 508-20, 566/518 combo, Prism DA-1, Audio Logic and I am sure, DCS Elgar and be happy with any of them."
