Can someone show me their lynx mixer settings. Just want to compare. I'm still having some grain/etch issues. Might just be the ragnarok though.

Sorry if this has been answered already, but are there any Thunderbolt enclosures that accept PCI (not PCIe) cards? The prices on the AES16 on eBay are tempting, way less than the 16e.

Larry used to be GM of all of CMEDIA's software business. His old buddy is one of the guys who finalized the USB 2 class audio spec and recently finalized the USB 3 audio spec and he consulted with Larry throughout. The USB implementation on most LH gear is superb.

USB audio in general is pretty janky, though. It's amazing it works given how much it middle fingers about how to transmit data in a sensible, reliable fashion.

Small and easy fix for my unusual noises. Needed to change the buffer size from 64 up to 128. No idea why but all is good now!

I don't think so, I tried looking without success. But you can build a mini-ITX PC which would take one for < $150. I'm in the final throes of doing this, and will try and write something up about it when I'm done (assuming I don't blow it up or something)

Yes, do let me know how that goes. I haven't heard of mini-ITX before so that's new to me.

What do you guys use as the clock source? I am still getting random clipping at low volume.. I cannot reduce channels and i cannot detect external clock source.

What do you mean random clipping? Clicks and pops? If so, increase your buffer. You can't change the clock source unless you actually supply an external hardware clock.

I also have my buffer setting on 128 for my PCI version and I'm having no problems with clicks and pops.

I shouldn't say clipping. It's more like intermittent skipping. Sort of like a CD when you went over a big bump at speed. I'll send a ticket into lynx support.

I've had that problem when using ASIO when I was recording. The other issue is that your power is set to 'balance' vs 'high performance'. Of note, before using any Lynx stuff and I was using an Emu 2020 (I think, it's been awhile), WASAPI was much more friendly when using Foobar for playback, vs ASIO which was very temperamental.

The resource usage meter mentioned on a previous page will help illustrate what is happening at those skips. I suspect every time it happens, you'll get a big red spike.

Play with the buffer and also set your affinity for CPU usage at highest for all Lynx programs. You can do this in task manager and by right clicking on the program.

Also try the DPC latency checker here
It has quite good instructions on using it to try and diagnose and fix dropout problems

I thought it was latency as well. So I ran the latency checker for hours while listening, whenever there was a blip there was no spike. If I changed amp/dac/transducer the problem remains. My CPU and ram usage seem to NOT be stressed as well.

It seems like the older PCI version AES16 can be found really cheap, especially considering the amount of money people put on USB these days.
I've just bought one for $50. A reasonably cheap way to test the waters...

I couldn't really find any good information to support the investment of PCI-e.

I tried updating firmware (2010) and it got stuck and never finished. Forced to restart and now i can't detect the card or reinstall\reflash. I'll give support a call when our time zones allign :(

Luckbad, how does the lynx compare to the xmos decrapifiers you've tried?

So i jumped on the Lynx bandwagon, found an Aes16e-50 card used for less then half the price of a regular Aes16e so i went for it. Just installed it and so far it sounds good. Made a cable with a DB26 and xlr connector but those DB26 connectors are a bit annoying to solder or maybe i was a bit rusty haha.

As someone mentioned earlier in the thread i did have a Marian Seraph D4 but it did not behave, it had sudden bursts of white noise that scared the living shit out of me. But i also had problems with usb so i figured ok, system problem right. So it went back. Well recently i had some time to mess with the pc and for shits and giggles i installed a Xonar D2X(using coax) and it f'ing worked great, sounded even better then sandpaper in ears usb. Dac being an Yggdrasil btw, and now i'm listening with the Aes16e... damn i'm impressed so far. Obviously needs more listening...

Also this card has an ethernet jack for AES-50, maybe some fun can be had with that!

Hi Guys, just a quick thank you for all the advice over the last few months. Finally my card it working normally. I ended up wiping my PC and reinstalling, updating firmware and fiddling a bit with some setting. The random skipping and noise has stopped.
However I did hear the aria and aurender w20 this weekend and think they edge out the lynx. The aurender mid bass was bloomier than it should be IMO, the Aria GUI is awesome and it was everything I wanted in a source. So I might pick up an Aria after xmas and do a side by side comparison with my Lynx.
