Especially since I need a visa to stay in this country. I can apply for a "search year visa" that allows me to stay and look for a job for a year after graduating, so there's that (i graduate in November).. and the fact that this was the first company that I applied to
Well, I say if it leads to oppurtunities to where you eventually want to go, then yes take it. If it leads you away from where you envison yourself, then move on and don't think about it. Life is too short.
Don't be a snowflake. Take the job. Search for the perfect job while you work your butt off and develop good experience. Get out of debt (if you have any) ASAP.
$ > no $
Edit: have you interviewed anywhere else and are waiting to hear back or is this offer the only one expected for a while?
No one starts their career with the perfect job. Take the job, roll up your sleeves, work hard and learn. Look at the attributes and knowledge you'll need to get the job you want and make sure you focus on developing in those ways.
@zonto, this is the first of two companies that I applied to. The "application" to the other company was an open application and they asked me to check back in 6 weeks for potential openings since they dont have any that fit my profile at the moment.
I only just started applying and had sent out a couple more applications on Tuesday and I was planning to send out more this weekend.
Like others have said, take the job. My first job I only stayed at for 8 months and ended up hating it. The second: 6 years and took me all over the world.
@zerodeefex, yes I have a fair goal in mind of where I want to be/what I want to be working on and I'll be keeping that in mind while I learn and get some experience.
I just needed to hear some of this from another person. Thank you guys!
Yeah, I am going to take it but I'm going to try asking them to make my start date the 1st of December. As of this moment it is 6 days after my defence/graduation. My parents are travelling to Europe for the first time and I'd like to have some time with them (and find a new room in that city, and move)
Go for it. Finish it in style with recommendations and a reference and stay at least for a year. If they offer you opportunities to become better at your job (training, courses etcetera) go for it. Even if it is not the best job, it is a good start...
They're going to call me on Monday to talk about the contract (explain a few things, answer any questions i might have) and then I'll go ahead and sign it.
I'm also going to tape up sheets saying "save money first, spend on audio/other random things second" all around my room for the first year.
