Have you tried turning down the digital volume control in foobar or windows? Some DACs clip as they approach 0dB, or peak output. Not letting them get there can help.
@Sqveak Yep, tried turning down the DVC on both Foobar and Windows. No effect, still get clipping like the above :/
@Thad E Ginathom That's what I'm curious to know as well. I'm going through my settings (foobar, windows, checking drivers, etc) just in case there's something wonky with them. Also, not so much the DAC clipping as the source itself, as per image above
I AM AN IDIOT. Was using really mid-recessed IEMs straight out of my laptop to transcribe some interviews, and the recordings themselves were so bad I used some very aggressive EQ-ing to try and cut off some sonic artefacts and bring the voices out more
And then some dacs like the Topping D30 I had will clip on some loudish bass notes(no EQ) like from great but poorly recorded new London Grammar cd. Or my particular dac was defective.
@bixby Hey, I'm using a Bifrost Multibit which is measurably inferior to the D30! No surprise the clipping was much worse on mine. EQ? Pshh, everyone uses EQ, it should be accounted for!
Also, yeah, I love London Grammar but the sq out of their albums makes me wanna cry. I can listen to the whole album on repeat, but I do wish production were better.
