Asking for a relative, any units that can connect to a PC and broadcast LDAC? Portable-ish preferred for use with a laptop. Nov 27, 2020 at 4:54 AM

Hahaha the HE4XX was one of those modern orthos that lacked texture but had better bass control than loads of affordable dynamics— it's a PERFECT headphone for modern pop!

Treble was much though. I'm sporadically EQ-averse and even with mods it was painful to listen to.

Point about 2.5mm taken well to heart, maybe it's just loads of the ones I've seen have been cheapo ones but the additional mass of the 4.4 inspires confidence, and looks neater to boot. I'd much rather have XLR for desktop but I remain an iFi fanboy despite their insistence on pentaconn :))

I am aware some people find making cables with "pentacuntal" connectors infuriating, which is another point away from it.

Rhythmdevils, If 2.5 feels substantial to you, why are all the kids on HF bitching about how many of the 2.5 connectors they have broken. Even A & K have a 4.4 connector on their latest DAP and they invented the 2.5 balanced connector.

I be @Claud has some good opinions of LDAC daps that can act as USB Dac amps.

Some thought must go into what music apps are available though them, and their UX

Suggested the a50. He decided to stick with his phone since it supports LDAC anyway (Samsung Note 9) but will be picking up an HD599 and one of @iFi audio's Zen DACs as a transportable rig.

Not sure how that happened but hey :))

I am with you. I cannot stand "vocal-up" mixes. I almost can't listen to Paul McCartney's "Driving Rain," because of this. I just listened to it just last week because the music is so good, but damn I need a -3db or -6db "vocal down" mix.

Rock music is usually mixed in with the other instruments, almost too much sometimes, like certain Soundgarden recordings. Sometimes I actually do want to hear Cornell belt it out.

Appreciate it. We'll likely be fine, but adjacent areas may be in a worse way. I just looked up the numbers again and it's estimated sustained winds will be 215kph with gusts of about 265kph. Not the worst in recent memory but still shit

I did see the RTINGS piece on this and tried the same but it still looks far from smooth to my eyes. Maybe it's just unrealistic expectations given what @SoupRKnowva pointed out about high refresh rate panels generally have higher hold times. Tempted to just leave it all at 0 and pretend I don't see anything amiss :))

yeah, different people use different words, RTings specifically refers to telecenic judder as judder, and sample and whole judder as stutter. one is avoidable with proper pulldown, the other is only avoidable on low frame rate sources like movies and tv shows with frame interpolation or impulse display technologies

The acting was, generally, not as good as Hill House and I think people who really love "scary" shows were a bit turned off since this wasn't really that kind of a thing. That said, I had a good time with it. I binged through it pretty quickly.

@Hrodulf the Philippines has a massive Catholic population and a lot of them are pretty... old-fashioned. Jaws dropped like atom bombs when the clip was released, but I'm personally happy. Francis is a bro.

@Skyline point taken about the acting, Dani was inexplicably not as engaging as Eleanor and a few of the interactions were a bit cheese. But definitely liked it.

Honestly I'd say the 10xx series is probably pushing retirement age pretty soon here. I'd save up and hold off on the trigger for as long as you can, and either spring for the 30xx series or find something in the 20xx series at a good discount.

Adding to that (character limits) the other reason is once the lower end 3060 and 3070 come out, it'll probably drive down the price of your 1070/1080 and 2060s some more, giving you more bang for your buck.
