you got to be agile, anticipate, etc., just kidding. Shit is obviously flowing downstream and I do know the feeling. Best advice, go with the flow. If not the alternative is not fair or pretty.
That said, it is extremely disruptive to take a team who has galvanized around a vision and a direction and keep yanking them around. You need to drive changes in a consultative and empathetic way or you will lose that sense of vision and direction and the product will suffer.
I don't know your boss / organization, but have you spun this back on him? It may have been dumb of me (long term behind the scenes feels stuff) and caused initial ire with person I challenged, but it was a net positive in the long run the times I've challenged similar stuff. Granted challenge for right reasons, not just to "be right" or even to make the company money per se.
My boss once gave me an urgent job to do. He then chatted to me for half an hour, and, after that, asked me why I had not done the job. I asked him what I'd been doing for past half hour.
I was not particularly constrained to be polite to that boss and often wasn't. None the less, my mates and I considered him to be a true man-ager.
