No! I just meant to point something out casually! The drama was caused by other members not you. I’m sorry Dan. Keep posting! I love your content. I feel like I’m the one who should stop posting after what my comment turned into.
@rhythmdevils I don't mind the critique at all. It's the idiocy that follows that I'm getting tired of. Like the aftermath of my ETA Mini S impressions. Or people calling my review of Piety "critical." Or my "misleading" early JAR800 impressions
I think a little back and forth is fine as long as it doesn't turn into fighting over who is "right", since that's not really possible with impressions. Appreciate both of you.
Believe it or not I'm ONE GUY on the internet. Don't know why people are taking things the way they are (@scblock I welcome discussion and back and forth. That's not what I'm referring to here).
I can't remember any of your reviews whose content I found in the least objectionable. I do, however, usually find that I'm not getting your point as clearly as I'd like. I'm convinced that it's a matter of writing style. Walter Wurzburger famously quipped that a term paper should be like a girl's skirt: short enough to arouse interest, but long enough to cover the subject.
@atomicbob I agree and I encourage having those discussions on this site.
What's wearing me out is this new attitude going around of shitposting, FOMO, and hype. SBAF was never about those things and frankly I'm very disappointed with the community as of late
I do agree with you that more members here in the last two years or so started getting defensive about their gear when criticized. Still those defensive stances are way more helpful than what happens on Headfi but I don't want us to head that way.
(I got frustrated when I read the 'mini scaling drama' so I can't imagine the frustration of the person who actually wrote the impressions, kudos to you!)
Defensive is fine. Again, shitposting + FOMO + hype trains for dayz.... it's just stupid. I'm all for differing perspectives and productive discussion and questions.
Joke aside, so-called drama in sbaf is all about understanding (or trying to do so) context, taste, etc. Plus some extent of etiquette. Those who're not ready for any of these should abstain from loudly debating (against review/impression posts), I think.
Disagreement in this hobby is not rare. But it doesn't need to be expressed hastily. Better wait until the idea is fully organized and developed from multiple POVs.
@Vtory I find myself kind of lost on the "new site." At CS, I knew everyone's sonic preferences—because people were honest, even combative in a friendly way, about that. It's all right if one is not yet aware of his sonic preferences. (*I* wasn't aware for the first two years.) It's also all right if one's tastes change over time. But it would help *a lot* if people were straight up about their current preferences.
I think “critiquing reviews” is complete bullshit and needs to stop. How many people who critique reviews write them? Write your own damn review how you’d like it. And for the record my comment on chacha’s Bee review was not a critique, just an opportunity to say something to SBAF.
@Claritas Great point. And I don't disagree. Maybe I'm more concerned with how to express current preferences honestly but not over-decisively. When seeing some reviews I can't agree/understand, I'm preferring to ask questions (politely) or to write about own impression, rather than to directly challenge without researching contexts enough.
@ChaChaRealSmooth keep posting impressions please. I don't even agree 100% all the time (is it you that doesn't like Jot2?) I always loved Jot2 but I'm not going to go after people that post different opinions of it for example. I like piety but I appreciate your impressions of it. It really is still a magni !! Little levity is needed, it's not all serious business folks.
