Maybe something else in the chain is obfuscating the difference there could be be otherwise? Cables are weird and interesting, and never make the changes I expect regardless of cost.
I feel differences are only there if there is a significant difference in thickness, or absolutely different material(silver vs copper, maybe someone will make an all gold cable one day), which leads to impedance differences.
AXPONA had an interesting demo by Kimber - they were running identical systems with their 8PR VS Carbon 18XL. I consistently heard the difference and preferred the $400 8PR over the $3K 18XL, as did the friend who went with me.
Analog cables make the least difference, digital cables make even the fewest difference. Even on an AP555, there is little difference if any I bet. Blue Jeans is already a high quality Belden 1800F anyways.
But here's the rub: I trust Blue Jeans to make the thing properly, with quality cable and components. I trust them to the best they can also when it comes to specifications, which might, indeed, matter more for digital cables.
People tell me that I decried one form of marketing but fell for another. That is perfectly possible.
My own limited experience - sometimes, in some systems, with some conditions - there is a difference. Sometimes, in some other systems, with some other conditions - there is no difference.
That and some cables sound better with some systems than other cables, even if the other cables are objectively better on paper and with measurements.
I hear huge differences between headphone/iem cables and interconnects. I've got 2 different OCC copper interconnects here that sound very very different. And I prefer the cheaper one just based on sound.
I'm struggling to hear a difference with the BJC AES and the OCC coipper AES though. But my Pi2AES is in a tough place to get to and by the time I do the 5 jumping jacks required to change the cables it's' hard to tell anymore. So I'm not sure. If there is a difference it's more subtle than other cables.
When it comes to balanced cables, analog or digital, I have a VERY hard time hearing differences. My experience with unbalanced RCA is that it can be all over the place with analog, but digital is still pretty subtle.
