Every since DSOTM, Waters voice became more complaining and more annoying on each album post DSOTM. Replace the word "Wall" with "Cock" on every line in The Wall and it makes no difference.
(flamesuit on) I'm probably the only person in the world of that generation that thinks the wall (and Pink Floyd in general) is horribly overrated. I didn't like them then and I don't understand the resurgence in interest now (flamesuit off)
As a Prog guy I'm ultra Genesis fan. The only three Prog Floyd Albums I can deal with is DSOTM, WYWH, and Animals. There's so much better Prog than Floyd, but I do like Nick Mason Jazz drumming.
If you don't like The Wall or The Final Cut, you probably won't like his solo Amused to Death either, but I like all of them. Also Genesis, for sure. And Marillion. And Alan Parson Project. And Supertramp.
I didn't like Amuse to Death and I have the album. Radio KAOS is the only solo I like of his since he didn't went into crybaby mode. Marillion is great with Fish, Alan Parson Projects best songs was with Lenny Zakatek, and lets not talk about Supertramp
The Wall and Final Cut IMO are not that proggy compared to the others. More straight ahead even though more “rock opera”. Incidentally, they are 2 of my fav Floyd albums, but I’m not that much of a prog rock fan generally either. The Wall to me is a masterpiece.
I do not like final cut and never have. I absolutely love the wall though. Animals is probably my fave these days. Also if you haven't checked out the S/T David Gilmour album from 1978 you really should.
Simply put: Roger Waters has always been a pompous ass. Gilmour has always been the superior talent, helping Waters reach his ambitions with great musicianship.
It's interesting to read about the history of the band. They created all this in incredible music - The Wall is brilliant you're an idiot if you disagree who cares what "genre" they're in ;) but they were in constant turmoil as a band throughout every single allium, hardly staying together as a group and fighting constantly.
And one member loosing his mind and barely being present. It's hard to believe they created some of the best rock albums of all time in such disarray. And it makes me wonder what they would have created if they were actually working together on every album instead of them trading off basically making solo albums because the rest of the band were all fucked up mentally.
@rhythmdevils many of the greatest musical creations were fueled by mental anguish, conflict and alcohol/drugs. Had this not been a part of their creative process, I doubt they would have created what they had. Unfortunately, dysfunction is sometimes the fuel for creativity.
Working through trauma =/= crybaby. You don’t have to like the albums but their contents are all significant issues that couldn’t be further from “crybaby” concerns. The loss of a parent as a young child, abuse by authority figures, the horrors of war, the ways these things strip us of our humanity.
