Not entirely true. If you're a fan of Kanye West, Beyonce, and any of their closest friends then Tidal's playlists, banner ads, featured videos, and recommended tracks are right up your alley.
Kidding aside, I agree and just use Tidal for albums.
Yeah, Tidal does sound noticeably better and I really enjoyed that aspect. But the genre playlists, not to mention the social aspect, make Spotify the one I bother to pay for each month. Which is annoying, given that I now have a Roon account too. Sigh. I'll spring for it eventually but Spotify is just a better service in every other way. Paying a premium for a second service tests even audiophile ol' me.
Spotify wins for me because of their discovery algorithms. On Tidal I needed to dodge Jay Z's crap and listen to the same old songs. Most of the time when I listen to Spotify convenience outguns sound quality.
Had used tidal for almost a year for the sake of loseless, and now I'm Apple music subscriber. Tidal app UI, playlists, suggestions, discovery, and even top 20 music are just shameful. Drake, Beyonce, Kanye; pretty much those ppl. It's good only for listening to albums you know. Spotify is comparable to Apple music - it's just personal preference. But Tidal, adios!
Let me put it this way: if Spotify added lossless and some credits info for the albums, Tidal would be dead. But Spotify also still isn't making money. Tidal seems more sustainable, and is better for artists. But I'll be damned if Spotify isn't better for finding new music or quickly putting on the right playlist to fit a mood or situation.
