The custom Android ROM game is still going somewhat strong but it's not as lively as it used to be about a decade back with the DarkyROM community and others; LineageOS supported the GT-i9000 Galaxy S up until 2017 it seems, but with how many models there are out now development is diffused.

@Merrick Apple do seem to at least give the “appearance” of trying to be somewhat responsible and ethical regarding the environment and privacy (the child porn scanning thing notwithstanding). Privacy and device updatability were 2 of them main reasons I switched from Android to Apple.

I think we audio types are acutely sensitive to this phenomenon. Some of us are still rocking 40-50+ year old gear - planned obsolescence is crux anathema to the hobby.

That thing is awesome, would be cool to see a version with "drive by wire" as in where the vehicle scans the environment and figures out how to adjust itself. Right now the human's the slowest component in the chain.

The subtle burble of a nice engine is one thing. Fart cannons though, too monotone. A stock Golf GTI can sound really nice. Those big American V8s, I dig them. Just do not let your car fart like an asshole.

Just make sure whatever you buy has a proper unadulterated HDMI-to-HDMI bypass and/or a 1:2 built-in splitter.
And like others mentioned: its difficult finding proper audio-side S/PDIF de-embedders... w/out some latency issues or horrid re-clocking chips.

There's also a bunch of much cheaper Chinese HDMI to SPDIF splitters w/ de-embedders on Amazon; though they do tend to have lots of fake/sponsored reviews; as I usually check-up on: https://www.fakespot.com/ before shopping on Amazon/Newegg/Yelp.
