They've had to release a record amount of water from two reservoirs downtown and the lake just north of my location to prevent structural containment issues. It's unprecedented.
Releasing water from reservoirs in these conditions gives me really, really bad memories. Without that, or with it done in a properly managed fashion over previous days, our city would not have flooded so seriously in Dec '15.
An Indian living-in-USA friend on a classical music forum has written about this being Houston's Chennai moment. She goes on to say how much more superior your services, government, and accountability is. Hope it goes on working out like that over there... and that you don't need too much emergency services
the scope of the flooding is so mind-boggling at this point. So many of my friends who started out saying, "No worries, it doesn't flood in our neighborhood" have since been ordered to evacuate or have said they're really getting nervous with the nearing floodwaters.
One of my buddies described above has now just lost water to his house. Wish I had a big old lifted truck about now so I could drive down there and help them and others.
