That is pretty absurd variation for a supposedly built-to-order item. Looking at the general signature I reckon I *may* enjoy these.

That shelved Audeze upper mids and lower treble. Does the LCD-4 sound like Fazor plastic?

From what I've been reading, these lack that newer Fazor-y flavor, which has me interested.
Though they also apparently lack the slam of the older Audez'e type of sound. Poo.

That dip in the presence region was apparent when I heard them, and are probably a major contributor to why people think they sound boring.

i posted the graph of the lcd4 and el8 on audeze facebook page and simply asked why there is such a severe dip in the treble and why they felt it was a positive effect on the sound

they responded and said "Those arn't accurate, for above 2K measurements, the best way is to use an IEC baffle and not a dummy head."

I responded and said the measurements were off their own site.

All comments have since been *redacted* classic audeze LMFAO

Starting to get into estat levels of finickiness I suppose. That's the price you pay for "transparency" though right guys?

What are unsafe listening levels for Audeze? Is Motorhead's Overkill going to hammer the LCD-4? Is Philthy Animal Taylor going to destroy overpriced headphones like he did his septum with nasal decongestants?

Buzz at 4k$? Seems most of the reports I read on the LCD-4 aren't that good. I'll take the half price 3F instead me thinks.

This really only confirms that the next audeze purchase I make will be a pair of used LCD 2.2s. Not gonna pay $4k for a headphone whose performance depends the gods of randomness.

I'm wondering about how Audeze would handle a hypothetical backtracking from Fazor. Us over here would celebrate it but imagine the cognitive dissonance over on HF and the like were this to happen.

I doubt anyone would register it over the Lego movie theme music blaring in the background.

That's the thing about cognitive dissonance.

I'll be lurking to see if anything fun happens, and to watch the bans fly.

^ This is probably true, the hype is strong over there.

This is easy. You just call the non-fazor technology "new" and then hype up how much more awesome it sounds than Fazor and offer to new tech all of the old LCD-fazor headphones for a price.

I mean, you sell hype. It's already what they do, just keep doing it.

Just put on a lab coat and do some Jedi hand-waving. Easy to convince the HF masses that it's progress!

Something as simple as, "Thanks to a new, radically improved enclosure design to maximize acoustic resonance and an incredibly robust, incredibly consistent drivers coupled with a whole new flux capacitor magnet design, we no longer need the fazors to achieve sonic perfection!"

    And they'd eat it up.

Audeze is ridiculous. Anyone who defends Fazors has never heard a real instrument in their life.
That's the LCD 2 though. You'll have to flip a bunch of them. Then you'll be rocking out at 90 db and the driver will die. I tried to do that with DT 250 250s to get a closed HD 600 and it didn't work even though I went through four of them.

The LCD-4 better not have the quality control issues the 3 has. Don't people have drivers fail on em a lot? What causes that? Does the membrane touch the magnet and it gets destroyed, or are the connections just really loose and cheap? There weren't these issues with the 2 and the X from what I've read. The lack of design variation is an annoyance (but look at HiFiMAN) and the price space race is going exponential, but weren't the LCD-2 fairly good headphones to jam out with? Where'd they go wrong, because I was following Audeze two years back or so and they seemed like a pretty intelligent company aside from their only headphones being $1k and $2k.

Well, there's always option 3 - sticking with what I have, and saving money for a pair of IRS Betas and amps that can drive them.
