LOL. Darn. I missed it. You guys know, Jude, in his paranoia, will think that I ordered one of my "minions" (that is, one of you guys) to do this. :(

Paypal $5 to anyone who can send me a screenshot.

Holy shit, it appears as though he has become a victim of Jude's rendition program. He is probably being forced to listen to HD700 at a black site somewhere...

Obviously a troll account but amusing nonetheless.

LOL! I don't even know why you guys bother that much with HF. All I know about Stonehard is than he hates The Merv for whatever reason. I don't even know what he likes or what he thinks about audio. In fact, rarely do I go to HF for audio or anything else.

There are some good old threads about this and that, and I do read them from time to time. But the drama there IMO is just a waste of time. Though I agree it can be entertaining.

There is one properly worthy thread currently on head-fi that everyone should read IMO. A guy is trying to find a second DAC which is better then Yggdrasil for a second setup. Has gone through the work to audition just about everything. Has sonic impressions of DACs from all the major players in comparison to Yggdrasil.

    http://www.head-fi.org/t/804153/life-after-yggdrasil

I'm curious to see what he is going to think of MSB and DCS.

Makes sense it would be a quality post, the OP posts around here as well.

Thanks for sharing. A lot of stuff to read through.

Interesting thoughts on the Chord Mojo:
"At anything close to its price point, and in several cases well beyond that, I think this is the best DAC available. I would take this over several of the more expensive units in my evaluation so far"

The Mojo is good. Better than Hugo, and Hugo TT in that it didn't have some tonality issues with the latter units. There are lot of expensive DACs that are crap though, so that statement is easily made. I don't think the Mojo would compete with good high value desktop DACs like the Gungnir MB. It's a great list, I'm glad he's doing it, and I actually agree with many of the things he's said of the units I have heard.

From my vantage point is simple: The Yggdrasil is my main DAC with the Gungnir MB my back-up/secondary DAC. So to that OP on head-fi, that's how I would go. If he/she is happy with 24/48 tops, the Assemblage DAC is very good.

Fascinating journey for @Torq over there. I'll never be in his position to do what he is doing, but I've been curious about perceived listening differences of the high end dacs.

Thank you for the kind words.

It's been an interesting process so far ... and a lot more work than I anticipated! Some of the units wouldn't have gotten auditioned at all if I'd not had a timely, and extended, trip to Europe planned when I started. It's probably a good thing that there will be a little break between the DACs I've already auditioned and the next batch - as I was getting burned out on listening in that fashion, and the write-ups were starting to feel monotonous and repetitive.

Still ... half way done, so it's downhill from here ... and I have to say that, at this point, I'm looking forward to hearing the MSB and dCS stuff as well.

First of all, I just wanna say that this thread is all kinds of interesting. I always got a funny feeling from head-fi. Starting to understand my emotions a little better now.

I don't use head-fi often, though I've been visiting the site for years - long before I actually got started.

Never bothered with reviews there. Those are generally a f'ing mess. A lot of the impressions just don't make any sense to me. There's a lot of flowery, hype-laden dialect mixed in with oddly-rigid measurement adherence (a lot of them poorly done/sourced or mis-interpolated... ...not sure if that's necessarily intentional.) It's like people pick and choose the parts of subjective and measurement analysis that suit the impressions they want to give, even if they clash with eachother.

I feel like they're taught a different color system over there... ...like what most see and label as the color "red," they insistently call "magenta" or some bullshit and put it in a strange place on their special color-wheel - their magenta is a different magenta than your magenta. The colors don't relate in the way that most understand them to.

A lot of times, Head-fi feels like some sort of weird, buyer's remorse support group... ...it's creepy and off-putting.

It's handy for keeping up with releases and there are some nuggets of wisdom, but the place just feels crowded and not unified, in spite of the consensus reasoning. I never felt like there were actual conversations going on... ...it feels a lot more like a massive collection of shoutboxes than a community. It's not inviting in the least.

Because of that, I never got involved. It's too much work for what is just kicking back and talking/learning about audio. It's not a place that seems meant for people to do that. It's more like head-fi is a spotlit stage, and all of the members its audience. You are not a part of head-fi. It's just a place you go to.

That's why I like it here. People sometimes read and respond to what I say. They reach out to me and make me feel like I'm actually involved in a shared interest. It has a tangible sense of community. People/conversations are approachable.

Head-fi feels like being alone in a crowd full of people who are behaving in ways that don't match their surroundings... ...like they've all got VR contacts on or something. And the only way in is to pretend like you're seeing what they're responding to. Very bizarre from the outside looking in.

In all of these years, I can't even begin to describe their ethos. Why do people go there? Other than promoting and getting people excited about new, stereotypically "audiophile" products, what else is there? Is that all people go there for? A lot of them don't appear to think so. But that's mostly what I see happening.

They also have a lot of weird dogma, sort of like reddit with entry-level DAC's and mid-fi cans. Even this place has it's dogmatic tendencies. But here, they make good logical sense. I don't always agree, but I understand well enough to know where I stand with it. Head-fi's dogma is just so erratic and random that it's hard to even pin down. Half of the time it contradicts itself. Just depends on the month. It's like the guy writing their bible has a split-personality and he's just ripping out/replacing pages as he pleases.

No hate. I know a lot of people love it there and have friends there, but I personally have never felt any connection to the place. Never felt like I could ever fit in there. Too much I don't understand. Even more that I don't want to understand. Maybe I'M the one who's out of touch...
