The SR 60i is on his wall of fame.

That said, Tyll does seem to hate treble boost, so he is inclined not to like grado or beyerdynamic. I would like to hear his impressions on the new T1, since its tuned quite differently from the original T1

If the 2Ke is as warm as an HD650, Tyll might not react quite as poorly as he did with the ulrasone. Of course the fact that he doesn't even review the higher priced grado lines probably says he has no respect for them. Just my guess.

Nope they sound nothing like the 650. I worded my post wrong.

A lot of 650 fans like me have never even tried a grado... If this is what Grado sounds like then they can keep it....maybe there are 650 fans like me who are curious.... If Grado still hasn't gotten anything close in this revision they probably never will. Listening to this headphone will make you understand why you never have. Grab a listen at a meet or something so you can hear them for yourself... That way you dont accidentally purchase these things based on another Grado fans perspective thinking you will get close to the 650 or something.

I have read elsewhere a lot different than what I heard. It could come from people who were grado fans and from their perspective, but I was expecting a lot different.

OK, that's make lot's more sense. To me, any grado and the HD650 are very different. I prefer my Grado RS2e as background music at work, and I use some Mr Speakers Doggie Treat to tame the treble a bit (one pad per cup). The higher treble of the grado helps we stay awake :) and it makes it easier for me to listen to some on-line conferences and product demos. I also like how they allow any external sound to be heard, which lets me answer my door or phone.

None of these "benefits" are particularly positive regarding the headphones for audiophila. Grados are simply for those that like the sound, and the look, which is less important to me, but I have had a number of positive comments about them.

I may take my T1.1 to work and see if I can use them. It's off, but I need virtually no isolation, or I cannot hear my phone. We'll see.

I really hope you post your impressions on HF.

That makes sense because they provide no isolation, have great clarity and speed, are decently comfortable, can be enjoyed honestly... I mean if it were no music or the G2KE with music I would pick the G2KE with music. I would pick them over the Nighthawks on some songs and pick them over my modded Pioneer HRM-7 on some relaxing music because they sound open and clear but they would never be anything I would pay for with my tastes.

Haha it was brutal and shocking!
I was afraid of gBeast getting banned do I felt I needed to soften the blow. ..
    It really was destruction. .lol
I owned the HP1000 first model that I have been told was the most neutral model and made by founder of Grado.
Those were the real deal good.

Haha nope Ultrasone will forever hold that title. .

That was me last night and I was lucky to not have read such a review at night I might have get a nightmare ..

Well, I finally got the GS2000e loaned (thanks TTVJ), and it's pretty interesting. It's certainly not warm like the boring, laid back, veiled Hd650 :p

It's definitely got more down low than the RS2e, as well as sparkle up top. It might even be V shaped, but I don't have measurements. So far I would not say it's not silibant, but I'll bet it'll measures with some treble peaks once someone measures it. Mids seem recessed and not lush at all. I have it for a week, so I'll be trying all sorts of songs with it. What it might be is fun, but need to see if it's fatiguing. I wasn't impressed with its sub-bass, but more listening is needed. It's certainly giant and dorky looking; certainly not for the fashion conscious.

Try the flat pads if you can. See if there are any differences.

I don't have flats, but I did try the L Cush, and it destroyed the soundstage.

Since I joined Head-Fi in 2004, registered in 2006, I have pretty much tried, and owned all Grado headphones. Only Grado I could not hear was that mythical wireless version of PS-1 (or, I would say, the real version since PS-1 was supposed to be that part of the wireless system instead of sold separately.)

In short, There are a short list of Grado that is actually worth considering to obtain:

    1) SR-60 (any version) or anything you can buy under 100.

    2) Anything from Joseph Grado, or the ones used Joseph Grado headphone's drivers (Just don't overpay.) This includes HP series, very early SR series and RS series which used Joseph Grado drivers before they changed them into John Grado versions.)

    3) All Alessandro variants.

    4) PS-500

And oh, by the way, there is one condition for this list : you must use flat pads. If not, only SR-60 is worth considering.

That's it folks. Let you know I ended up selling all Grado headphones except Joseph Grado one.

Plus : That said, I have not heard this... 2000e yet. But I don't have much hope.

interesting thread...i was looking into grados as a way to mix things up and try something else
than my 650s (seeking more detail, punch, but still an overall balanced sound)...versatile for many genres.
    ..so thought of Grados.
i'll go listen to them anyway (gs1000e) but am also considering the audeze lcd x.
please feel free to make other suggestions..would be paired with mojo, dragonfly red or mapletree ear + hd tube amp.

In addition to GS1000, try RS2 with taped bowls (electrical tape around outer circumference of the foam pads).

Seconding the RS2, never heard the tape trick but flatter pads have always been a major weakness for the low to mid models. GS1ke revision was a step backwards, but still miles ahead of the ps1k.

I also high recommend MrSpeaker dogie treats or similar in the pads to attenuate the treble a little.

Strangely, I am simultaneously glad and sad that Dan seems to be ditching the bizarre dog theme of the MrSpeakers products.

    I mean... "Doggie Treats?"
That's such an awful name for an audio tweak. So awful, I kinda like it.

Now this isn't to imply that i've heard all the different Grado models, far from it in fact, but I've heard many (senior citizen) and they have all fallen into a category I call huh? Don't get it at all. Yeah, I get the $100 thing with the sr60, but since my Momentum on-ears (by no means anything special) are, to me at least, orders of magnitude better than any of the Grados and cost $75, which kind of negates the recommendation for value's sake. Grado got lucky when steampunk became a "thing," as they do kinda have that look, and we all know a lot of headphones are purchased based primarily on looks. The thing is, just like our Mr. Marcus (apparently), many people love them. Too many for it to be solely an aesthetic judgment imo. A useful reminder of the amazingly subjective nature of judgments about sound quality. Anytime I read a review gushing about a headphone I have heard and thought sounded like shit, I think, well yeah, but...Grado fans. But then I like my dt880s, so there you go.
