It was a wonderful pairing. Mine and @Maxx134's impressions are somewhere in this thread.

After exactly 297 hours my Jotun blossomed into something that is 1.7x better than my modded Super 7, unless I leave my Super 7 on and in my oven at 137F for 5.3 hours, at which points the S7 pulls back ahead, but then I put some rocks on and solar stabilizers under my Jotun, which put it back in 1st, but by a hair, but then I put a fake 1' Christmas tree over my S7, which I'm fairly certain causes fractal-diffraction on the air molecules around the S7 and turns it into a literal aural rocket ship and takes my pants off for me.

I've had my Jotun on since I got it, playing continuously, and it still sounds about the same to me after it gets warmed up. Not that being warmed up really sounds all that different to me than cold.

I left in my car baking under the SoCal sun until the metal was too hot to touch. Usually when I power it up cold, I expect a stronger glare. But this time the glare and even the forward sounding nature of it was gone. Can't re-test this as the unit was shipped off to @Azteca.

Permanent burn in perhaps? :p. I always keep mine on 24/7 to make sure I don't have to worry about warm up or glare/harshness from a cold tart.

And a month from now we'll have the Schiit cookbook:

Jotunheim is best medium-rare, or 30 minutes in a 200 F oven, garnished with parsley and thyme....

Probably just a little bit. ;) Jotun still sounds like Jotun to me regardless, maybe with subtle refinements post warm-up.

Maybe that's why I go "huh, wha?" when people say their Jotunheim is bright and thin. Mine is like... super mellow, relaxed, and a wee bit warm.

Then again, I have her cookin' like so...

anyone stacking a Modi Multibit on a Jodie? Pics? Thoughts?

RMAF is soon, and I'm hoping to hear this combo. Also, I heard Schiit will have a fairly big show special at RMAF.

(OK, I just started that rumor, but if we all believe....)

I am, and connecting them with Pyst. It looks a little silly, but it works well. The Modi Multibit is a solid DAC that sounds remarkably decent for the price (as you doubtless know) and the Jotenheim has a nice clean SE in, so it's a decent combo.

thanks. No heat issues with the part of the Modi Multibit that overlaps the vents on the Jodie?

Even after having my Jotun on since I got it in a couple weeks ago, it really doesn't get too hot. I would feel comfortable stacking things on it so long as the vents weren't entirely smothered.

No problems at all. The amp doesn't get particularly hot- they both just get a little warm. The DAC only actually covers about 20% of the holes, too. I am not at all worried about either.

(For ref: ambient temp has been 20 degrees C or so recently, fairly normal "room temperature".)

Hey, Baldr always says that his multibit DACs need to be up to temperature anyway, to settle into their INL spec!

I use the same stack and have had no heat issues. 90% of the vents are still uncovered.

Same here. I stack Momby on top of Jotun. They're just warm to touch. For comparison, Mojo runs warmer & Valhalla 2 can cook an egg.

Hell, this summer, my Mojo has been shutting down due to overheating- just running on the table, out of the case, balanced on its edge for extra airflow. It gets awfully warm just charging and playing at the same time.

OK, I have gone back and done some more comparative listening, this time swapping between the SE and balanced cables between the Jot and the HE400i. There are solid improvements in sound stage and instrument separation. I'd definitely make the effort to pick up a balanced cable if you owned these headphones and this amp.

I bought the Jot for my HD650, as I was sure it'd do interesting things (and it's a really nice pairing), but it's a nice bonus how it has perked up the HD400i too. Given how easy they are to drive to a "reasonable" level, I wasn't expecting the HD400i to have much up its sleeve.

Well, I haven't been paying attention to Schiit for a while. I see this thread, so I go out and order one.

HE-6 no problem? Sounds like a wild claim. I'll see. But I'll be frankly surprised if it can top my Gustard and Raganrok combo.

Would be interested to hear back. I'd say Jotun is different from Rag, not necessarily better. Their sound is quite different.

@Bill-P and @Kattefjaes - off topic, but nice photos of your setups. @Bill-P , I wish my desk looked like that, mine looks like a stationary store explosion being tended to by Sennheiser and Schiit...
