Me? Nope. It makes distortion nasties.

The O2 clips when internal signal voltage exceeds 7V (ex. 2V source @ 4x gain).
    You don't need 7V with a HD800, so it's a non-issue.

This is true for the HD600s assuming its 7 Vrms as well. According to IF the HD600s need 0.23 Vrms to reach 90 dBSPL or 0.17 mW (I've come up with very similar numbers as Tyll).

7 Vrms will mean 163 mW into 300 ohms, which translates into roughly 120 dBSPL (1000x 0.17 mW). I would not recommend doing this for the sake of your headphones and your ears.

HD800s seem to be a little less efficient, but in the ball park.

I'm not running out of headroom with the O2 with any of my POS cans. HE-6es might be a different story.

It's been said before. The O2 in general, while not perfect, is not a bad amp at all. It's not special sauce, or unique esoteric topology either. The "objective" crusade on the other hand...

YMMV in terms of what you like, or not like. Or what synergies you are considering.

Hi chaps. Bit of vinyl system advice please. Let's say I was planning on getting a TT in the region of a Michell Gyrodec...what kind of level should I be looking at for a realistically priced phono stage that would do the TT justice? Not much budget left, but don't want to bottleneck the system quality-wise. I have a Jodie so could go for the phono plug-in if that's up to it...? Cheers!

Any ideas on some good stuff under $50?

I have a pair of V-Moda Faders that works well. Only moderate attenuation, but music is still enjoyable.

I know this is a judgment call (headphones vs speakers), but appreciate thoughts anyways:

I'm starting a new job very soon that will allow me to work from home a fair amount, so I'm setting up a home office. I could possibly sell off some headphone equipment to go to a desktop/nearfield speaker setup. Currently doing AES->gamma3->torpedo3->Elear or modded hd800 but also considering something like AES->gamma3(maybe Gungnir Multibit/Yggdrasil?)->new Schiit->philarmonitor or bmr

I lean a bit towards the speaker setup because why not when the freedom of working from home allows it? I'm hesitant because I'm not very experienced with speakers for audiophile listening - don't know what I don't know, etc. I'm also concerned about speaker placement on desktop - I could put them on stands behind a desk, but then there'd be way more interaction with a monitor. Mostly concerned I won't be able to sit the speakers back far enough if I go with something that isn't coaxial (or particularly with the bmr since it's a three-way).

Really appreciate anyone's help or thoughts on this.

Yeah, I think so. I'm lost in speaker world, though. Maybe Focal Twin6 BE or Event Opal (where to buy?) or something from Neumann or Genelec?

    • I am looking for best overall gaming experience I am leaning for the Ether Flow. I currently own the Valhalla 2 and a Smsl for a Spdif Dac. I haven't bought the headphones yet try to see what I want to buy first. Looking mostly for gaming and SBX surround makes a huge difference for me

My guess was going to be a combo of sound blaster z-SPDIF-A DAC-RCA Cable-Vahalla 2-Flows

So my questions is the valhalla 2 powerful enough to drive flows or do I need the upgrade for Lyr 2?

Will a basic modi uber work for SPDIF instead? or use my current DAC that works well?

Does the X7 sound better then the sound blaster z?

Thank you for all of you help you guys are amazing!

Sound card with true dts-ma out or something similar to Smyth realiser with modded HD800. That's end game. I wouldn't use the ether flow for gaming.

I'll be moving this to the all purpose advice thread.

Hi guys. I'm looking for a speaker setup for my college dorm. My budget is sub ~200 dollars, PC input, if you can squeeze a subwoofer that would be very nice. This won't be used to create music. I'm really just looking for a nice sounding rig when I don't want to use my headphones. Thanks.
