need help... I have a PS3 that I have connected to my arcam rDac via an optical toslink cable. For music there's no problem with this setup but with DVDs I need to accelerate to 1.5 the playback speed in order to get some sound out of this setup, i.e. when playing back at normal speed no sound.

I have tried to dumbly activate all sample rates in the optical output setup of my PS3.... but the problem is still there...
any idea what I might try?

    Cheers,

I haven't heard either, but I'm probably going to move forward with the Torpedo III early next year. I've got a soldering iron and other stuff coming for Christmas.

Has anyone here heard the AMB b24? There's been one floating on the sale forums at HF for nearly a year and I must admit I've always been kinda intrigued (plus it's in Canada, so no weird customs hassle to worry about).

Hi, I have a problem. My DAC/Amp is Geek Pulse Sfi. While it is good with efficient headphones like my HD598 , I think it lacks power to drive properly my HD650 (I heard a little veiled in mid and treble with my HD650). Maximum power of my Geek Pulse is only 7Vrms with 16Ω. I have heard that Hd650 works best with tube amp but in Europe, acquiring good tube amp like Project Ember, Crack and Schill Valhalla 2 is much more expensive than in US. So I need to buy an modest amp and use it until I save enough money for better tube amp.I want to ask if modest ss amp like Matrix M-stage (which I can buy for 120 euro) can drive HD650 better than the built-amp in my Pulse?
I really appreciate your advices and thanks in advance.

What CIEM are the most audeze like in sound signature? I really love mid range of auzede.

If within budget of 700$ would be great.

Which Audeze? I might not be very useful here because I don't use CIEMs, just universals, but it would help others give advice.

Use just the Sfi until you can afford the amp you want.

Any thoughts on a Gungnir Multibit + Mjo 2 or a Bifrost Multibit + Valhalla 2 on the HD800? Looking to add more warmth into the mix while retaining detail. I'm also limiting this to choices I can actually currently buy new. Have heard great things about the likes of the Teton, BW, and Liquid Glass but they are either currently unavailable or out of my current price range. The Rag is also a contender but it seems tubes and the HD800 are always recommended together.

I'm trying to get the most out of my gamma2 DAC from my USB-only laptop. As I understand it, the USB implementation is okay at best. I've been looking at getting a Wyrd, although I'm wondering if someone could recommend a USB-to-coaxial converter in the same price range?

OR: can I just use the USB to coaxial converter built into the gamma2 and send the signal from the front coaxial output to the back coaxial input... I think I hear an improvement from doing this, but open to it being placebo. Maybe the double-combo of Wyrd+internal S/PDIF converter would be worth pursuing?

I'm this close to ordering Black Widow, but I just want to get a final round of opinions. (This is the most expensive amp I've considered.)
Is it a good endgame for HD800? Mine's currently stock, but I'll get the SBAF mod when it's eventually out.

I'm looking for a second "top tier" open back headphone to complement my newly impulse purchased HE-6. I thought I was done buying stuff for a while, but my Ethers were stolen by USPS, and while I am going through the claim process I am contemplating if I want to rebuy the Ethers (I did like them, loved their comfort) or use the potential insurance money to try something new.

Gungnir Multibit-Mjolnir 2 is my setup. Looking for an open that could complement an HE-6, I almost feel the Ether is a little too similar after a couple days now with the HE-6. Comfort and "good for gaming" are a plus. Just wanted to see if anyone had a good suggestion. So far considering HD800 (or maybe S), pre-fazor LCD-2, or maybe even trying a HD650 and comparing to my r70x, but I 've read the soundstage isn't great?

    Any ideas welcome

Do you know what the sample rate from the optical output when using DVD is? Sometimes optical inputs may be restricted to sample rate. DVDs are 48kHz. Is there a rate lock LED on the DAC? Also might have trouble switching rates. Maybe turn DAC off and back on to see it will relock to the DVD rate. Or maybe option on PS3 to change output sample rate?

Probably not worth spending the money. Most USB to SPDIF converters I've heard didn't do much or made things sound worse. Only the top end converters sounded better than built-in USB, and even then, not always. In any event, you need to be playing at the TOTL DAC level to discern differences because they won't be major. Wyrd is nice. You can swap PS caps a la @Bill-P to change its tonal characteristics. And you can continue using Wyrd in the future. Wyrd is odd in that it's actually kind of a "investment" in that it can be used over and over and over and over. I suspect I may have the Wyrd longer than any other component. FWIW, audio gear is not an investment. I glad I haven't caught people here saying they wanted to "invest" in an amp or DAC, because that would be a really really bad investment.

BW. Limited number of units. Will give you a bigger sonic change than the Gungnir Multibit. Gungnir Multibit can be your next purchase after.

Or consider something like a used Super 7. I like toobs and HD650.
