After 10 long years owlboy is finally coming out:

Peeking at the jimquisition review, this is a strong contender for GOTY for me. I'm very excited!

Right now i'm in the middle of "Dark Souls 2".
Took me forever to play it and now I kind of regret it.

Unlike most people, I find it way harder than "Dark Souls".
I'm currently stuck on the Ruin Sentinels. I don't have an Xbox Gold account so I can't call others for help.

I also just quit playing "Bloodborne". Really liked it but there is no real incentive to finish the last level since I don't want to start over.
It had a few hard parts but it's easier than Dark Souls 1, 2 and 3. Rom The Spider took me a few tries.

Lately I've been tempted to get back into "Final Fantasy XI". That's the first Final Fantasy MMORPG and it's still alive!
I quit when they cut out XBOX 360 and PS2 support in March.

The people in that game are seriously hardcore and will spend months and months of their life on a "relic" weapon etc.
That game sure has changed compared to how it was at first. The game is mostly easy mode now and you can get to level 99 in a day.
It used to take some people over 2 years of playing to get to level 75.

My main was "Beast Master" and somehow I even got that to "Job Master" which was extremely tedious to do.

Anyone still play it? I'm on Lahksmi server.

If you like fast-paced-shooters like DOOM and tongue-in-cheek humor I highly recommend Shadow Warrior 2:

New Deus Ex was kinda disappointing, I couldn't get the feeling and flow from earlier parts of the series. Damn shame as it's one of my top 10 game series.

Time to wash the disappointment away with DS3. It never fails!

Yeah, I didn't really care for the newest Deus Ex myself. I mean within the first five minutes I knew something was up when a panel conveniently unhinged and fell to the ground. Like the game was saying "hey stupid! Try this!" Overall the characters and storyline felt a lot flatter and less engaging than Human Revolution's. There was no build up, no real sense of atmosphere until later parts of the game, and it all ended way too abruptly. Only positive aspect I can say would be the combat mechanics. But then I found myself not playing how I'd normally play a Deus Ex game just to enjoy it a bit.

Dishonored 2 is definitely a better sequel IMO. I haven't played too far in, but thus far it's offering more of what I liked about the previous game with enough freshness and replayability to make it exciting on its own merits.

Muppy yeah, it felt stupified version overall. Not too fond of gears of war combat mechanics either.

Dishonored 2 will be installed next. I really liked the first part so your approval makes it even more intriguing. Game on!

I've been shilling for Dark Messiah here before but if you like dishonored (I'm yet to play dishonored 2) you will probably like Dark messiah, made by the same studio, similar in a lot of regards and I bloody love it. The story is a bit...shit however. But I've never been a storyguy anyways.

Dark Messiah was indeed excellent game. I loved the physics which were sorta unique at the launch time of the game.

If I remember correctly the same game studio created Arx Fatalis which was another master piece. One could cast a spell by drawing symbols to air. Oooooo.

Well, DMoM&M is only similar to Dishonored if you're not the kind of player to spend half an hour sitting in a corner, waiting for the guard walk cycles to align perfectly with the planned route. Like me.

Thinking of picking up The Witcher 3 in the Steam Sale. Any thoughts on whether it's as good as everyone says? FWIW, I absolutely adore Skyrim. Cheers!

Annoyingly, even better. The hype is justified.

I would suggest getting the full DLC pass too- the DLCs are.. impressive. Trying hard not to rant about how amazing it is- though you will need a pretty hefty PC to have everything turned up high enough to see it in all its glory.

It's a huge world, the writing is really good (ohgodohgod the "bloody baron" questline). There's often no obvious "right" answer. Choices you make can affect the flow of the game in ways that aren't obvious. There are cuckoos in the woods and geese in the villages. Character animation and in-engine cinematics make Skyrim look like Thunderbirds. For an idea of the sort of work that has gone into it, look at this:

    http://www.pcgamer.com/most-of-the-witcher-3s-dialogue-scenes-was-animated-by-an-algorithm/

Yeah, so it's pretty good. You will find character movement feels a bit stiff and weird at first, and the fact that you can die after falling about a meter will drive you INSANE for a bit, but persevere. It genuinely raised the bar for the epic open world RPG. I went into it as a sceptic, ready to pick holes, but came away very impressed indeed. I did have to do a second ("new game+") playthrough to get the ending I wanted- the fact that I did both playthroughs back to back is pretty telling.

Oh, for contrast, if Shadow Of Mordor comes up in a sale, grab that too. It was six quid or so recently. Fantastic procedural stealth brawler, with the slickest controls, also looks fantastic. I played that just before Witcher 3, which is why the controls in Witcher 3 upset me so much

A not so much of a counterpoint: it's really ugly. Not in the term of environmetal design, cuz I think that is pretty good for being mostly grassy knolls, but the character design is rly, uh, rural Polish, for a lack of a better word. It's like the guys at CDProjekt went to the farmer's market and modeled every single character after onion farmers or something. And it's really uncanny for me, though I assume you didn't grow up in a tiny eastern european village lmao.

@%20 Oddity - no, I didn't. I assumed that they were going for "generic medieval grotesque". That's actually really interesting, and something I didn't consider. It is ugly, dirty, angry and full of life.. but I suppose it has different resonances, depending on your background.

One thing that I really liked about the game in English was that the voice acting was quite varied. It wasn't just a bunch of jobbing Californian voice artists trying to sound gritty like most games- lots of weird UK regional accents in there too, really anchored it for me.

Couldn't ask for better info, thanks both! Bought and in the process of downloading.

Btw, yes Shadows of Mordor is brilliant...I spent most of 2015 playing it :)

You guys know my feelings on The Witcher series... LMAO.

    Random gaming stuff:

Right now I've been going through Demon's Souls (for the 1000th time) and the original Dark Souls, which I've actually played the least of in the series, ironically. Also thinking of picking up Salt & Sanctuary once again, which I find a whole lot more difficult than any of the Souls games save for maybe The Old Hunters DLC and the later chalice dungeons of Bloodborne; I think that largely has to do with the game being 2D and having true "old school" design elements. I mean, for the amount of hype Souls gets for its difficulty, it's really not that bad once you know what you're doing, especially by older game standards (Castlevania, Ghouls and Ghosts, Magician Lord, etc.). The main thing about Souls is that it has a very steep learning curve. Especially the earlier titles.

My opinion of Dark Souls 3 has only improved since the first DLC. Yeah, it was relatively short (seemed about the size of the Sunken King DLC to my mind), but I absolutely adore the main boss battle and the new boss weapons. Also the Millwood Knights are really cool, and their weapons---while nothing particularly new like the boss weapons---are still really fun to use. Also getting the arena mode makes the value proposition of the first DLC a bit better to my mind.

One thing From and Bandai Namco really screwed up though wasn't the content, but how that content was revealed. The trailers for the first DLC literally gave away 95% of it, including all the bosses and locations. Then they give certain YouTubers early access to the arena, along with nearly every new weapon, spell, and armor. Frankly it's ridiculous. Lesson learned: when the second and final DLC is announced, do NOT watch anything past the initial teaser trailer, if that. Just ignore, ignore, ignore all related media. Especially since this final DLC is billed as a grande finale to the game's lore.

Aside from that mess, I've been going through Skyrim Remastered. Haven't played the core game since the first year-and-a-half of its release; still haven't done all the DLC stuff. For some reason I always end up playing a High Elf or [occasionally] a Dark Elf. Aside from looking like aliens, I just think they have cool lore and abilities. This time 'round I've got two characters going---one of each---though I'm trying to vary my play style a bit from the usual bread 'n' butter mage build. I'm trying to focus on collecting unique artifacts and weapons, keeping magic to more of a supporting role with alteration, conjuration, restoration, and enchanting.

Dishonored 2 continues to be a blast to play in small intervals. I really love the world and mythos of the series, and it's really hard to play in "ghost mode" because I have a strong compulsion to explore every nook and cranny. TBH I sorta gave up and just started fighting everyone, resulting in a high chaos rating. Those unfamiliar with the mechanics: having a higher chaos rating means the game world becomes more hostile and, well, chaotic. You get to see the social order decline. One thing I realized early on in the first Dishonored however is that choosing the non lethal option for dealing with targets is often far more disturbing than just outright killing them. A definite case of fates worse than death in these games. I also have a compulsion to replay missions over and over to see all the different routes and possibilities.

On that note, it's nice to see the two different characters you can choose from having very different sets of powers and subsequently playstyles.

Okay... I've rambled enough. I'll cut this short with the usual list.

    Stuff I'm most hyped for:

    -> NiOH (early-ish 2017)
-> Mass Effect Andeomeda (early 2017) - I'm really trying not to get my hopes up, but that latest trailer has me giddy, damnit.
-> Resident Evil 7 (early 2017) - specifically with the PSVR
    -> Persona 5 (first quarter 2017?)
-> Dark Souls 3's second and last DLC (first quarter 2017?)
-> DOOM 2016 single player DLC (sometime in 2017??)
-> The Last Guardian (IDK when this thing is actually coming out...)

Which pretty much leaves Final Fantasy XV for the rest of this year. I'm kind of, um, *imdifferent* toward the game at this point in time, but honestly the setting and designs look really cool. Who knows? This may just be the first Final Fantasy I'm able to get into since IX.

@MuppetFace - does Dishonored 2 do the same thing as the first one where there are more rats, and things look darker and more unpleasant with high chaos ratings?

I'm a terrible sucker for discrete, non-lethal routes through games like that, incidentally- ever since the first Deus Ex... It also gave me a compulsion for multiple playthroughs to see different endings.

Edit: Also, no, I don't know how you feel about Witcher, or more specifically the third one (I own all three, but couldn't bear the first two, due to bugs). Give me a hint, does it fit into love/hate? :)

Witcher 3 is brilliant but tad unevenly written. I felt that the best part of the story line was dealing with the swamp ladies which took place in early stage of the game. Those gruesome Donnas were awesome.

Witcher 1 battle mechanics were from arse but nevertheless I sank 80 hours cutting down monsters. Witcher 2 had to be finished twice to see both endings. Strong recommendation for the whole series.

Sidenote: true Witcher nerds should read the books too! I finished Lady of the Lake last summer and really enjoyed the ending of the saga. ++

Muppy : big up for Nioh. Gonna score console for solely that and Bloodborne. I've been 100% pc gamer my whole life. Until now.

Some crazy deals on amazon right now for consoles.

Both slim models from Xbox (with Battlefield 1) and Playstation (with Uncharted 4) are $212 right now while the Ps4 Pro is $340.

Dishonored 2 seems to be ultra suave experience. I played the first game skulking in the shadows, this time I'll be hacking and slashing every one to pieces. Refreshingly hard mode seems to be quite challenging - at least in places with many fiends. I'd prefer more parkour but then again I'm in the very beginning of the game. Hopefully the sequel will have something truly new compared to Dishonered 1. I really like the graphical style of the game. So far so good. Hopefully longer gaming sessions won't turn in to mindless grinding.
