We're gonna need a lot more info like what do you have in the rest of your chain?
But at a more basic level... how much power do you need? do you need a dac or phono pre? does your existing source of xlr output? Sometimes choice is dictated by need/requirements rather than "sound".

    I have Yggi A1.Phono mani 2.
By reviews,I understand that aegirs have more intrested sound (for my taste) than Ragno.
I also decided to ask the gurus here.

Two Aegirs in most cases by a mile (or kilometer). x2 Aegir monoblock will be less warm (and less soft / more articulate) than a single one, so recommend a rich sounding preamp. Had chance to hear Kara recently. It would be my pick, however I'm sure many others good. A small group did a blind three way shootout at the Schittr a few years ago. Aegir vs Vidar vs Rag 2. I don't think Rag 2 got a single vote, although it did do some things well. Aegir got most of the votes with a few preferring Vidar.

    Thanks for reply.
Is it big difference between FREYA S and new Kara?

Very similar, Kara is an improved Freya S, a Freya S on steroids, but I wouldn't make getting Kara over the Freya S a priority.

How in the hell did Vidar 1 get any votes over Rag 2..... I own both.... Vidar 1 only beats rag 2 in bass control, but even then rag 2 beats vidar in Bass tone, texture, detail.....

Next time there is a meet at the schitter scoring ought to give points on a preferred basis...

IE. 3 amps, First Choice gets 3 points, Second choice gets 2 points, Third choice gets 1 point....

I haven't heard an Aegir yet, but Rag 2 to Vidar 1 should be no contest...

Probably the specific setup at the Schiitr, components, room, synergy.

I stand corrected. Vote was split between Rag 2 and Vidar. A points system probably would have scored Rag 2 over Vidar.

    4 votes Aegir (C)
    1 vote Rag 2 (B)
    1 vote Vidar (A)

    • A: Warm, thick, flat and boring. (First experience was fine, I thought it sounded good, but after comparing to the others, it started to lag behind.
    • B: Deep soundstage placement (is this a Schiit amp?) Lows rich throughout to highs. Tone is dense. Also not written but discussed with others: delicate, subdued mids (or bold lows and structured highs).
    • C: Upfront soundstage placement, but better layering. Mid-centric (compared to the others). Super immediate, emotionally involved, could hear the smoke from Ella Fitzgerald's throat.

Because Aegir 2 is coming (with maybe more power and Halo tech), as hinted by @schiit on the Midgard livestream.

Anyone with an Aegir 1 planning on getting an Aegir 2? I would love to read a comparison on heat and sound.

I got one in and will go on loaner.. Will compare with two vintage receivers. Stay tuned. Supposedly the softness in the bass (when used as stereo and not monoblock) has been addressed.
